GVG and technique

Tried to read through some of the threads in regards to the GVG, but I didn't quite get a clear answer to my questions.
Flame away if I missed it

Anyhow, I'm talking soley about vaping spice.
My first steps where done using the GVG with 7screens stacked in the bottom chamber of the GVG, but never really got those really deep experiences even I felt I went all out with like 45mg.
Yes strong effects, but not "out of this world" effect. Continued to experiment with more heat, more screens (10 stacked).
But it seemed no matter what I did I ended up with very little vape forming, or very thick vape which in turn gave a lot of dark yellowish/orange "material" down in the bend of the GVG.
Which made me believe I probably was burning a lot of spice which went straight trough the screens.
This made me turn down the torch to default (aka middle/50%) of the Turboflame Arc.

Which immediately gave me a lot stronger experience with less than half the dosage.
The problem so to say was that it took forever and then some to get any sort of vape to form.
In no way could I light the torch and immediately start pulling slowly to get vape forming.
Had to keep the heat on for like a good 10seconds and even then I head to re-empty my lungs during the pull before vape starting forming, though at this point the experience got a lot stronger than I had experienced before telling me I'm defiantly on the right track..

So after that little wall of text comes the actual question, which is about heat..
Are the ceramic filter on top of the GVG supposed to glow a bit?
Current theory is to move the torch close enough for it to start glow a bit, then pull away just enough for it to stop glow, then slowly back again during a pull.
Was going to try this earlier today, but as I got started the top of my GVG cracked down the side (the removable top where the filter is) so I aborted...

Any insight and details would be highly appreciated.

I use the pad with basically the same lighter and immediately get vapor when i start pulling. It works like any other pipe. You light right above the filter, it gets red hot, vapor comes and that's it lol. You must be heating the crap out of that thing if you cracked it. My top peace kind of gets clear looking but it doesn't crack. Another thing that works really well in the gvg is enhanced leaf. Make some enhanced leaf 50-70% dmt, put it on top of 2 screens and you should blast off with out a problem. The great thing about enhanced leaf is that you can smoke or vaporize it. If you have a pad don't stack a bunch of screens then place the pad on top of it. One screen is the most you need with a pad. While you wait for your new top to come in the mail make enhanced leaf with 60% dmt and give it a try. Im telling you enhanced leaf works so good in the gvg that you will be shocked.

For enhanced leaf and changa I use this bong. 12” height, 6-arm tree perc, ice catchers, slitted diffuser downstem and a ashcatcher bowl. The great thing about this bong is that it gets a lot of filtration. If there was still lye in your product after a re-x the ashcatcher and filtration would probably take care of it. Its a good size and if you put 50-70% enhanced leaf in this thing your going to go far.

Sorry, I'm a year late on this Osi, have you tried preheating the stone, or did you end up trying that? Preheating by pulling through flame but when there's no spice on there, then loading the spice, then it melts, then hitting it? I've read that's the best thing to do.
