not sure about the solubility of freebase harmalas in ethanol but it's not terribly high from my experience. here's a thread with crystallization from ethanol.

Since all this was achieved without liquid-liquid extraction, I'm now wondering if there's a similar route one can take with MHRB...

Nothing all that close, due to the very different solubility profile that harmalas have in comparison to DMT.
