Harmala, Morphine and Codeine

Migrated topic.
This is what I have found:

Some manufacturers consider the administration of narcotics and MAOIs within 2 weeks of each other to be contraindicated. However, morphine has been safely used in MAOI patients who previously had an adverse reaction with meperidine and is generally suggested as an alternative to meperidine in anesthesia, as long as vital signs are closely monitored. Other recommendations include giving patients small initial test doses of narcotics and monitoring vital signs for adverse reactions.

Source: Morphine and Nardil Interactions Checker - Drugs.com

and This source: David D. Burns, M.D.: The Feeling Good Handbook ( Plume) states that:
Most other narcotics, including morphine and codeine, have been used safely with MAOIs

It seem that it is kind of safe, however caution is always necessary, do not do as me, that is, take harmalas and do your research later, fortunately the interactions of these drugs are not dangerous when taken in the way I did.

It has passed 1h and 20m since administration sublingually and I have gotten no noticable effects. It was my first harmala only dose so will up the dose a little bit next time.

I took some pills yesterday due to my kidney problem. They contain morphine and codeine. Is it safe to to take 100mg caapi harmalas today?
Well LetSoulsDevour, I am a recovering opiate/opioid addict. I take buprenorphine as a maintinance therapy. Buprenorphine is an opiate agonist/antagonist. The reason it has antagonist affects is because it has strong binding affinity to the mu opioid receptors. Anyways, i have dosed with harmalas while taking the buprenorphine and didn't have any bad side effects. Hope that helps, i know it's not exactly what you asked but it relates.

Anecdotally, I can offer my experience.

I have coadministered kratom and Harmala/caapi many times, especially lately as my daily level of pain requires me to use an opioid at least once a day (and with that I am still in quite a bit of pain- usually it is 2-3 times daily). I don't LIKE to do it, not for any fear of health problems, but rather I feel that it blunts the experience and leaves me with less of an Impact. This could be psychological.

I have also taken Harmala with 10mg hydrocodone (prescribed of course), with a similar experience as with kratom. I feel it takes away from the experience. But, then again, so does being wracked with pain. So I feel a little like my hands are tied. It's lame, I don't even like taking these things daily AT ALL and I pray one day I won't need them.

And finally I once took 5mg oxycodone at the end of a Jurema/Harmala experience, for pain, and had no negative consequences.

However of course YMMV and its better to not mix them, just for the sake of the experience

Heres a good article on the subject of MAOIs and opioids; some opioids have serotoninergic-type effects which makes their use with MAOIs dangerous eg pethidine, tramadol, DXM and methadone fall into this category; morphine, codeine and oxycodone do not have this hazard.

Fentanyl has very occasionally caused problems with MAOIs.

YMMV is appropriate to remember but IME, Ive had no problems with changa and morphine/oxycodone/diamorphine/codeine/fentanyl (at different times!!!).

Oral harmalas do need some additional caution because certain opioids interact with the Cytochrome P450 enzyme system which is affected by oral harmala administration.
