My first newb question!

Hi,

I started working with rue extracts (using the teks from this website) and so picked up a uv light to assist. I'm noticing no matter what I do the glowing property is retained everywhere, it doesn't seem to ever get weaker no matter how many acid soak/simmer/boils I do or salt precipts.
Is this normal? I was kind of hoping I could see it visually so I knew how I was doing. I checked some caapi tea I had made a few weeks before and frozen with the light, and noticed its far less vibrant. I had drank some and it was very weak.
Also curious what people think about using an egg white to clean up first, I noticed the filtered egg was pretty glowey as well after wards, perhaps grabbing more then oil and tannins?

Glow is merely an indicator of harmaloid presence, not a good indicator of concentration or amount. For Rue extractions, I use whiterasta's tek instead of the manske. For this tek, it is possible to monitor (or at least get a good idea) of when your actives are out by the depletion of color in your solution (the isopropyl goes from deep deep dark vibrant red to light red to light brown). When you're done with a rue extraction, everything that was used will glow because everything will have at least a tiny amount of alkaloids stuck to it, it's really nothing to get worried about, your yield is most likely not suffering as a result of this excess of glowing material. :)

The harmaloids fluorescence in solution in totally minute amounts, so you'll be most likely seen fluorescence even after maybe 10 manskes on the solution or even 10 acid boils. Do not worry, you're not really losing much if you cannot extract (or precipitate) "all" the fluorescence. With syrian rue being dirt cheap even leaving 10% of the alkaloids behind there's not much problem!

(with caapi most people would agree that extracting alkaloids to relative purity is a waste of time)
