Has it been a waste of time?

Can anyone tell me how much truth is in the fact, that if you leave your cacti mix in a high lye mix it will break down the alkaloids and you loose them??
I done an extraction last night and was disrupted after I added the lye and water mix and iv read of the loss!! Has anyone had any experience in this?
Is it still worth carrying on with this mix?

Do not worry, mescaline is perfectly stable in that solution for longer than a day or two.. just keep going
