Hello Nexians. First I’d like to say thank you for this wonderful resource! I have learned much from it as a lurker, but now that I’ve begun my journey with DMT, this seems like a good time to actually sign up and share my experiences so far. I hope this is of interest, albeit probably covering much familiar newbie ground.
My entheogenic explorations began only recently. It started with funghi. My partner and I developed an interest in spotting and identifying wild mushrooms whilst hiking (this is what middle age does to you). It was only a matter of time before we discovered the psychoactive varieties, including Liberty Caps (P. semilanceata) which grow locally.
Our mushroom trips (3g / 3.5g) have been blissful, altered my perspective on life, and re-awakened my interest in spirituality. It also sparked an interest in entheogens more generally. Another influence was watching some fascinating interviews with Andrew Gallimore, whose book I intend to read (if anyone has, and can advise whether it is a worthwhile read for the layperson, do let me know). I’m of the ‘you need two eyes to see’ mindset; that is, both the scientific and the spiritual, and neither should be neglected at the expense of the other.
I won’t bore you with what I assume is the same path of discovery most of you have traversed (‘Oh, DMT can be made at home from readily available material!’ ‘There’s a helpful web forum about it!’ Etc). Long story short, I used a standard STB extraction on 100g of MHRB. I lost some yield during re-extraction, but I gather this is to be expected. The end result was whiter, more pure-appearing crystals. I know the colour doesn’t necessarily matter, so I’m undecided whether to do a re-ex next time or not.
I considered various methods of smoking/vaping, contemplating and dismissing oil burners, e-liquid (I couldn’t really be bothered with all the kit or the additional step of making the liquid) and direct e-mesh (relevant parts now hard to acquire). The well-reviewed GVG looks decent, but is unavailable in the UK. I settled on a Lotus vaporizer, which looked like a good GVG alternative, being another flame-powered convection vaporizer. Anecdotally, I understand there is a bit of a learning curve with the GVG, and my experience of the Lotus is that it similarly has one. I can confirm it works though, and it’s a satisfying piece of kit.
My first few attempts did not involve travelling anywhere, but did result in some enjoyable visual distortion of my surroundings, with kaleidoscope effects, mosaic and fractal patterns appearing, and the general appearance of somehow both seeing in HD, and being inside a painting at the same time. On one of these occasions my dog seemed to sense I was doing something weird, and came up to me and kept touching me with her paw (I have removed her from the room on subsequent occasions) and it was like looking at a picture of a dog on one of those glittery corrugated ‘hologram’ things that you used to get on stationary and stuff when I was a kid.
As a foreshadowing of later events, I also had a brief moment on the most successful of these occasions of thinking: “who am I? What am I? What’s DMT?”
During these preliminary experiences, I was able to perfect the use of the Lotus. My most recent two experiences, both at 30mg (possibly not efficiently consumed) have taken me considerably further, which I will do my best to explain. I don’t know if they can be considered ‘breakthroughs’ or not, but I wasn’t in my living room any more. On the first, I was in a sort of tunnel, made out of parallel lines of purple, green, and white light, like I was travelling through space. This felt liminal, as if I was on my way to somewhere else, and there were no entities that I could see. It was more like a dream state than reality, and during this, I had no idea who I was.
Presently I settled back into existence and remembered my name, that I was a human, and that I have a body. The same visual distortions that I’d experienced before continued around me. I let my gaze fall on my figurine of pregnant Gaia, which I am using as an anchor object. She was radiating a benevolent, grounding energy. Once all visuals ceased, I stopped my timer, which was at 9 minutes, although it felt like longer. I immediately journalled my thoughts.
The next and most recent journey was different again. After taking the second hit, the room rapidly dissolved into mosaic patterns. The next thing I knew I was back on the sofa, with no recollection whatsoever of where I’d been. It is completely blank. It must have been good though, because I was laughing to myself, seemingly about the nature of existence. Again, I realised bit by bit that I was a human, that I have a body, that language is a thing. I felt myself settle back into my body. Lots of nonsense single-syllable words were floating around in my head, the most prominent was “gwin” or “guin” (as in, the first syllable of ‘Guinness’). I’ve no idea why this is significant, but thought I’d include it anyway.
I also had a strong sense of my teenage self, and the message that this was the truest version of myself. Sufficed to say that it has been quite a few years since I was a teenager.
I knew that not remembering where I went would be a source of frustration in the days ahead (and it has been). But as I returned, I knew it must have been good, as I felt really blissed out and relaxed. I shall certainly return.
Does anyone have any experience of this whole ‘immediately forgetting’ phenomenon? How common is it? It might just be me (I rarely remember dreams, either) but I’m hoping it won’t be a recurring feature of my travels.
I’m intending to go forward in a spirit of respectful learning, as a humble seeker, knowing that I have only scratched the surface of this remarkable molecule.
Oh, I also tried making Ayahuasca as well, but that was a failure (in the sense that nothing happened). I’ll write a separate report about this (non-) event at some point.
I look forward to learning more on the Nexus. Thanks again for helping me get to this point.
