Hey im new here very interesting site indeedy love the wiki :D i have much reading to do lol

a curious idea came into my head lol have taken far to many random drugs and cant sleep and cant find the answer online any where lol. except one vague enconter on here where the idea was suggested that 5-htp could be with the help of MAOI's and some amino acids but... (i hope synth questions arnt taboo).

could dmt and other triptamines be synthed from 5-htp, i mean i dnt no much about chemistry but from what i can gather (correct me if im wrong) you if you just remove an alcohol group and a carboxylic group from the 5-htp u have dmt? intriugin. also it should be noted that when metabolised 5-htp breaks down to 5-ht which it appears is the removal of the carboxylic group (could this be replicated in a lab?) and then its a simple case of removing the alcohol group it and it would seem to be dmt. (sorry for being vauge i need to brush up on my chem/pharma).

basicaly either of these be done and if so how?

hope that all made sense thanks,

PLUR

No discussion of synthesis is allowed. This thread is now locked.

Please refer to the attitude page and respect the rules of the house.

I also moved it to the general discussions because it is not an introduction either!

In agreement to what Art say, synthesis discussions are not allowed, but it is really not black and white. If a synthesis involves dangerous procedures that kitchen chemists cannot perform safely, if it involves dangerous chemicals and also watched chemicals then it is a big NO NO. I believe that this thread lingers more to the theoretical side and I'd prefer it to stay there. Especially since listetothriver you're far from a chemist!

You're wrong here, it's not easy task to "just" remove the alcohol group from 5-htp. Not for kitchen chemists. Even pros would choose another route. You also need to check at your chemistry since even theoretically if you remove the hydroxyl and the carboxylic group you really do not get dmt.

Didn't you almost write the same thing above? Again, removing the alcohol group is not "a simple case" and again even if you do it then you do not have dmt.

This is the stuff that you shouldn't be asking - this is not allowed here.

Other than these, welcome to the forum! Of course with some reading you will realise that it is far better to let the plant make dmt and they you go and extract it! It makes life a helluva easier and safer, extractions are pretty much straightforward.
