Help- Crystals Floating in Naptha afer Freeze Precipiation

Migrated topic.

I did my first pull of my first extraction last night, and I've got big, white crystals! (felt like Santa came when I checked this morning).

I followed Cyb's tek, and it recommends pouring or sucking the naptha off to leave the DMT stuck to the dish, but I have crystals floating in the liquid. I know time if of the essence once it's out of the freezer, so would it be best to suck off the naptha with a baster, leaving as much DMT as possible and just reuse the same nap in the next pull in case some crystals are sucked up? Do I need to worry about the crystals falling off while the dish is upside down drying, since they aren't firmly attached?

Thanks for the help!

Take it slow and steady. Time is not a massive factor imo (It is recommended to leave the pyrex dish with lid for 20 mins or so after removing from the freezer in order to properly acclimatise prior to removing the lid anyways).

By the time you have almost all your naphtha drained the crystals should hit the bottom and stay put with some care.. Maybe then use a bit of tissue to soak up a bit more of the naphtha (yes a tad wasteful but better than wasting spice imo) and leave the rest to evap for a while longer than you feel is acceptable (err on side of caution) WITHOUT turning upside down.

At worst you may need to break up the crystals a bit to properly evap but I do feel that slow and steady wins the race.

Please note I do STB extraction myself and have had some very satisfying success but I am nowhere near as experienced as many others on here (especially CYB), just offering my thoughts

Sorry Zen...if you leave the dish to 'acclimatise' you will find that the Xtals will start to redissolve back into the nap as it nears room temp.
That's the whole point of freeze precipitation... The spice cannot be held in very cold solvent.

Quick is the key here.

Just pour off the cold nap into a jar...if a couple of floaters go with it...no problem...just use that for the next pull...you'll get 'em next time.

If you like you can invert the dish and drain/dry a while in the freezer...but straight to fan works best to evap the nap quick.

I felt ecstatic after my first good extraction.. Nothing like empowering the self with a little knowledge on how to blast into other realms (My thanks due to the Nexus also).

Best of luck, skill and will :)

I always get those floaties too I just pour them off and keep using the same naphtha to pull eventually if you get a good enough yield. Those small fractions don't matter too much unless, you're in this to sellstuff for every last penny you can, which isn't condoned. Just worry about whats stuck on the side of your glass.

Toxsin,
if you're 'in it to sell for every last penny,' or any amount of dough at all you'd have no place on this forum, so I'm sure this is not the case.

Couldn't you pour off the naphta through a coffee filter and scrape off the loose xtals once the naphta has evaporated? Because I hear that's what the nice old lady in the tie-dye shirt down the street does.

I was waiting for someone to call me out on this, I was basically pointing out what you said, I don't sell mine, I stash it and give free doses only to open minded close friends, people I don't know I tell to do their research LMAO

I edited my post better?

Hi everybody!

I'm not too good with freeze precips, & I think I know why - medium length story - anyroad up:

I had some floaters, too, so I poured my naphtha through coffee filters & collected what got captured. I ended up with 30mg of lovely looking (like that means anything!) very lightweight tiny crystals from a couple or 3 filters. That was just from floaters. IMO you've no need to worry about losing any of the yield.
Good luck.

SWIM used a single coffee filter with a bunch of holes around the middle of it... maybe 30 or so holes poked with a safety pin... put that in a metal strainer and then pour through that.

it seems to take a bit too long when going through the coffee filter alone. the holes let it go right through before it has time to warm back up and dissolve the crystals.

A decent amount of crystals can be saved and scraped off with a butterknife or spoon...

Does anyone know why some crystals float and some stick? Is it temperature related?

The first time this happened, the Naphtha was poured off through a coffee filter, but the filter was left out at room temp and the crystals were then absorbed into the paper - lost in the process. At no point, even when cold, was anything even visible to scrape or collect. It blended into the paper immediately.

Subsequent pulls just poured all nap + floating crystals back into the base mix with the thought "I'll get them next time"

This was an extract from 100g acrb... 4th or 5th pull now but each time getting increasing amounts of floaters, which making me less wanting to use coffee filter again and loose them all.

Anyone know another technique beside coffee filter or just letting it evap completely? Nap is very expensive round here

Also: does anyone know the temperature which naphtha will have 0% solubility for dmt? Just to ensure the freezer is frozen enough.

THANKS!!!!

I poured through coffee filters and the liquid drained through quite quickly (without poking holes [I think that would lead to losing some of the crystals]). Then I set the coffee filters on top of paper towels to pull the liquid through faster. Once it was mostly dry I scraped it. They were very light and fluffy but beautiful and the experience was amazing.
Best of luck.
