Help with harmala extraction. Yellow solution not clearly separating.

I was following the Super-Easy No-Filter Harmalas Tek. I started off with 125g Syrian rue. My only deviation was that I use a NaOH solution to precipitate the freebase. I let the jar settle over night and it never separated to a clear upper layer. The liquid looks nearly opaque. I can see some precipitate at the bottom of the jar. I decanted some of the upper layer and replaced with fresh water. I guess I'll keep continuing the process and see how it goes.

Any thoughts on what I might have done wrong or what I should do next?

I could be wrong but are those ground up seeds in your jars?

It may help putting the jar in the fridge overnight - Here's what mine looked like when I did it - TEK - Speedy No-Filter Harmalas Tek (draft)
No ground seeds, I used whole. Maybe some seed particulate that came off in the simmer. Has a deep bilirubin yellow to it.
Use much bigger container (3 l) and dilute it with water.
Check pH.
I've been siphoning off the top layer and diluting. I have 2 main 1 quart mason jars that I'm settling in. Putting the "waste" into other jars. I have nearly 50 quart jars that aren't in use because I'm taking a break from growing mushrooms.

I just thought I'd put it out there I find one of these helps, especially on big batches the harmala settles under the tap line and the excess is easy to siphon out. Making filter or decanting easier.

Hah I have one of those and was wondering how much of an issue the tap and rubber seals would be
 
Hmm I didn't have ph test strips, I had some hot tub test strips and ph looked like it was was greater than 9. I added concentrated NaOH solution until I stopped seeing precipitation. Maybe I didn't go far enough.
 
@lokbot I'm unfamiliar with the Super-Easy No-Filter Harmalas Tek. However, I read somewhere in this thread that you siphon off the top layer. To me, that sounds like you would have to tilt the jar, although I may be misunderstanding the technique.

A little backstory: I remember doing a harmala extraction using the Tao of Harmala Extraction, mainly because Gorodtek made a video about it back in the day, so I essentially just followed his tutorial. What I particularly remember about that process was how much of a pain it was to filter the plant material.

Using coffee filters was frustrating because they would clog and eventually tear. This can be somewhat circumvented by using mesh with a micron size comparable to that of coffee filters. I bought some mesh from ‘Ali-something’ for that purpose.

However, an even easier way to separate the plant material (sediment) from the liquid is to use a syringe and tube, or an electric pump. I outlined this approach in my The Tao of Harmala Resin Extraction tek, specifically in step 8.

Regarding the Super-Easy No-Filter Harmalas Tek: if you really do have to tilt the jar to separate the liquid from the plant sediment, it might be worth looking into using a syringe and tube instead. They're relatively inexpensive (few bucks) and make the process considerably easier. I remember sharing a similar technique on this platform, and someone even posted a video of themselves using an electric pump. That works too, although an electric pump can break down, whereas an inexpensive 50 mL syringe and some tubing will last a very long time.

The syringe is used to create the vacuum, while the tube allows the liquid to flow. In principle, you could even omit the syringe and use your mouth to create the suction, but I would strongly advise against that when working with NaOH, since getting a strong base in your mouth would obviously be a serious safety hazard.

2oz glass turkey baster has worked great for removing the upper layer of liquid.
