Help with Q21Q21 tek 2. Is Blueish/Greenish/Gray Normal?

First of all, this is my first post here, even though I have used these forums before for reference. I guess I'll just say that I'm glad to be here and get right to the point.

I had a dream when I was taking a nap just now, here's what happened:

I was in the process of extracting DMT from Mimosa Hostilis for the first time ever, and something very strange happened. I was doing everything pretty much by the book as the original Q21Q21 tek 2 instructs, using a metal pan as my mixing bowl. I added the vinegar and mixed around and everything was going smoothly, until I added the Calcium Hydroxide. When I did that, the mixture started having a weird smell, and turned greenish bluish gray. I've done a reasonable amount of research on the procedure before attempting this tek, and I have never come across such a strange transformation. Is this normal?

As a test, I combined my Calcium Hydroxide with Vinegar to see if my Calcium Hydroxide was really Calcium Hydroxide, and if that chemical combination was behind this weird reaction, and nothing particularly interesting occurred.


I'm not sure if in this dream it would have been a good idea to continue with the extraction as planned, or to throw everything away (which would sadden me greatly), or what might have caused this strange occurrence, or if it's normal or what. What do you guys think should have been done in this dream. I might continue this dream when I next go to sleep, so it's important to hear your opinions.

Yea,I wouldn't call it blue, but the grey color and stink lets you know its working, perfectly normal.

Just to confirm. Totally normal. It only seems to get grey where it is exposed to oxygen. No problem.

In your next dream please proceed with caution. I am not a chemist but I believe that Calcium Hydroxide can react with some metals (a couple of searches out on the interwebs might confirm this).

Glass should be used instead of metal...

EDIT: Another thought...mixing some water, vinegar, and lime alone in the same bowl may be a good experiment as well in a glass container to compare the colors/smells to determine if the lime is reacting with the bowl.

I did as you suggested, and I don't know, but it didn't seem like anything terribly interesting happened.

For me it was the exact opposite. There was a brown crust on the outside, but if you dug in you would immediately see gray. Is that what you meant?



In my dreams right now, I am in the process of evaporating off my first pull. It's almost ready and looks great!

I dreamt of scraping up my first pull. It was a little dissapointing, I only managed to scrape up 125 mg, but I'd imagine that at least 50mg or so I was unable to scrape up (I suppose my precipitation container is far from ideal). Oh well, I guess I'll start my next pull and hope to get more out of that... I thought that I didn't get as much naphtha the first time as I put in, so hopefully this time I'll get a higher yield.

Oh, I started with 114g MHRB.

So for an update on my dreams:

I have done 5 pulls so far and just reached a gram of total extracted material . But an interesting thing has been happening, it appears that up until my last pull, each pull's individual yield has gone up slightly. I think this is because each time I come up with a better technique to maximize yields (such as stick the pan in the hot water while the naphtha is dissolving the DMT, and other small things of that nature). In any case, I would have expected the DMT per pull to go down dramatically, and it hasn't been. Is this normal? Should I be worried?

I had sampled 25 mg of my final product after the first pull and it was a beautiful experience, so at least my first pull appears to have yielded a fairly pure product.

Does anyone have any thoughts on my dreams?
