I'm not sure if this is the proper area to post this, but SWIM is having a bit of trouble with an extraction.

SWIM has successfully extraced DMT several times, but this time he got his MHRB from a different supplier. Everything looked as it should when it arrived, but the MHRB SWIM normally gets is usually 70% powder, 30% fiberous material...this time it was 100% pure powder, which SWIM thought would be good....more surface area, easier to break down.

so like SWIM normally would, he basified the water, added the MHRB, let it sit over night. Today SWIM added the naptha as he normally would, and shook it around. the naptha and basified solution did separate, but the top layer has a red hue to it...normally, it's more of a golden color. BUT...it does have the same consistency. it's definitely not the sludge at the bottom...there are 2 clear levels. SWIM tried adding more naptha, adding more NaOH, but nothing seems to work. SWIM tried putting the reddish naptha through 3 coffee filters, but the liquid still came out red...not the nice, light, golden color SWIM is used to.

can anyone provide any insight as to what's going on??? it would be greatly appreciated.
 
Swim's experience is w/ A/B's as appose to STB's....so i don't know how much help he'll be, but he can guarentee that it has nothing to do with the bark being 100% prepowdered.

It can possibly a fat or tannin in the park that got carried over to SWIY's naptha. Most people see this as being an unnessisary (splng?) step, but swim alway's defats.....even though mhrb is not suppose to be fatty,i think that's a general truth but that's not alway's the case.Still that shouldn't discolor the naptha.

As far as the reddish color....swim sais carry on with the tek as normal and at the end, mabey re-x a couple times to get rid of any unwanted contaminates that carried over to your naptha.

Also, start trying some A/B extractions, it usually yields much cleaner product and they are not that difficult. Swims first extraction was with marsofold tek and he go nice white crystals in less than 24 hrs.

thx dwhitty...swim was thinking that it wasn't from the bark being powered either, but like i said...swim has done this quite a few times and that was the only variable. instead of using weight, swim always just used cups for measuring out the MHRB...never been a problem before, but because the pure powder probably weighs more than the fiber/powder combo cup for cup, i'll probably have to add more NaOH right off the bat.

swim just said fck it and extracted the reddish naptha and put it into a glass dish with a fan for evaporation. after letting this go for about 20 minutes, swim checked and reddish hue had turned into a reddish globs with crystals mixed in. swim added some more naptha, broke up the globs to release the crystals, and strained the mixture through a few coffee filters....presto. swim go the golden liquid he was used does, but swim is still very curious as to why this happened and what the impact on yield will be.

time will tell.

and thx lone wolf, but swim ALWAYS shakes the crap out of the mixture. if it's basified enough, the emulsion will disintegrate and you'll see some clear separation after about 10 minutes or so.
