Hello I am White Moses. I learned of DMT about a year and a half ago. I researched the chemical and learned more from this forum, books, podcasts and such. I wanted to make sure I was mentally and spiritually ready before using and purposefully waited until the right time and place. I attempted using for the first time about two months ago and have attempted a total of around 4 times.

While I have had some very slight ejects I have come nowhere close to a peak experience. I purchased a gvg to aid in this but little difference was made from the "machine" I had previously been using.

I may have come slightly closer to finding my problem today. I loaded my machine with only the chore boy that was used in the machine. I scorched it without the top of the gvg on. Surprisingly it had more of an effect than any time before.

In the past when using the gvg I did not 'pre-melt" as I did not know exactly what that meant to do. I simply tried to vape the spice after it was poured on a chore boy screen. Could this have been my problem? I would assume putting a lighter directly on the spice pre-vaping would simply burn it off into the air but maybe this is what needs to be done to melt it into the screen.

i dont know if pre-melting is necassary or not, but I do it. I use a lighter to pre-melt then a torch to vape. Pre-melting is the same process as vaping you just stop AS SOON as the crystals are all melted. Main reason I premelt is so if anything gets knocked over or someone coughs through the gvg or something similar nothing will get spilled.

I have never done the pre-melt and manage to get great results the majority of the time. I think your issue may be that the GVG takes a bit of getting used to. Try varying the speed of inhalation. Inhaling harder brings in more air and creates a cooler vape, slower is hotter. I heat up the ceramic block slightly before inhaling, whether that is very useful or not I don’t know, but I do! What type of lighter are you using with the GVG?

Well the lighter was something else I was a bit confused about. I see in a lot of posts that people talk about a arc lighter. I just dont get why. I use a bic grill lighter so it is on an adjustable 3 inch rod so it can be turned upside down. No, it is not as hot as an arc lighter but if you are vaping and not burning why do you need a lighter that is hotter? Im quite sure my bic can heat the ceramic and air being pulled in to the adequate temperature to vape so I do not understand what an arc does that mind does not as mine can be turned upside down.

I haven’t tried working with anything but jet lighters, to be honest. I can’t see the greatest results coming from normal lighters though, they work at a far lower temperature and are likely to cake things in soot. I would make an investment in a jet lighter and see what happens, you could buy a much cheaper one to start (I have found that the cheaper ones I had have broken quickly, but it is an easy foot in the door at least). The Arc is a great tool though, a very nice bit of kit. Hasn’t failed on me in the 3.5 years I have had it. There are some knock-offs of the Arc about that are far cheaper than the real ones, I can’t comment on quality though.

Maybe someone else with exprience of using a traditional lighter can chime in more usefully on using normal lighters with the GVG.

A good torch lighter makes all the difference. This is the same as the arc (China re-branded "zico" )

Ok why? I've read you do not want the flame over 130 degrees and if using a bic to keep it far away to make sure it heats but does not burn. It seems counterintuitive to need a lighter that is a hotter flame.

I agree with you here....especially since i do not personally care about the source of heat...

But why don'you try this suggestion from the other members and see how it works for you? I think that there may be more to the jet vs bic lighters debate than heat alone.

If you are working with the VG/GVG the game is different to a regular pipe or bong. You want the ceramic block to heat up quickly and efficiently.

As the ceramic block is in the way and cool air being pulled in the heat that actually gets to the spice is reduced. You can moderate the vaporization by adjusting distance and pull strength. It is quite hard to burn spice with the GVG and a jet lighter.

Ok that is an explanation that makes sense. I will look forward to trying the gvg with a torch. Unfortunately it will not be until Spring.

It is worth waiting for, the GVG is a solid investment. If your experience is like mine it will prove its worth the first decent journey.
