Crap...I'm on the launch pad, fuel looks good, ignition....huge first pull...large cloud of smoke...minor geometric patterns with my eyes closed...second pull...not enough...second stage failure!!! No cough, gag, nothin...I pussed...no breakthrough, nothin but a heavy, lethargic feeling, lips are numb? Why the F$%k are my lips numb? I couldn't get myself to try a third time. I feel like a chicken shit now. Bailed at the worst time. I was that close. The rest of the world watches and shakes their collective head...back to the drawing board. Maybe in another hour???? Or should I ???? Maybe I need another to mind me while I'm gone....

No burnt smell at all. Was a nice smooth vape. My lips went numb and my arms were buzzing and could hardly lift them. Had to stay lying back for about 5 minutes because I was buzzing pretty good. 6 months ago tried my first journey...bad...burnt the spice...burnt my tongue, I don't know how I did that. A friend of mine gave me a ship made out of a light bulb...now I know better. Now I use one similar to the machine.
Smilar thing happened to me one time,I guess device is the problem.I've done it before with bong very easily and successfuly then I made a machine and I tried 4 times in a day with the machine but I just couldn't,just felt some euphoria and numbing lips.I didn't feel any nausea or disturbance,I'm sure I didn't burn it but I guess it didn't vaporize enough and there was no visions or visuals,just some weird audio alterations.Then I decided to make some encanced weed,I prepared it then smoked it and everything was ok(except the contents of the trip)

Either burnt the spice or some of the spice melted down through the pipe and got onto your lips and into your mouth. I've had this happen when using a small little traditional stone bowl that i had. The melted spice resinated down into the end of the pipe and got into my mouth and on my lips. This caused the lip numbing effect that you mentioned.
I never realized the resin had come out the the mouth peice until i looked at the pipe itself. I never really felt it go into my mouth.
Just a thought.
And give it another shot when you are feeling up to it. It will be worth it to just go full bore and make it happen. The best ones i've had were the ones where i let go of that fear before hand and just went for it. If you want to succeed in a breakthrough you definitely will. But its tough sometimes to not just pussyfoot around with your hits and to sit there hoping you took enough. you gotta KNOW that you took enough. 8)

Same thing's happened to me with a traditional glass bowl. Took me a while to really muster my courage and really rip it for a full breakthrough, but once you do it's very worth it. As said before, it really does all just come down to knowing you took big enough hits.
Thanks for the insight everyone...I looked my machine over and there is a little recrystalized DMT in it but not terrible. No brown resin and I can still see spice in the stainless mess I use. I don't have an idea how to post a picture. I mean I really pulled good the first time. When I exhaled, I blew vapor 3 feet away from me...then I sort of shut down and had a real weak 2nd then I quit. Stupid...I should have mustard one last pull and I stopped. You know..then you start thinking and that crap gets in the way.... Now I wait until next week...
Thanks for all the great info! I had my first experience recently, and was so afraid of burning myself. It was damn hot, but I am not a regular smoker so I may just be sensitive to having hot gasses in my airway. My friend told me don't worry and just keep hitting it hard.
Now I know that you can get burnt! Yikes. Twice I did feel like some small, sharp particle had gotten through to hit the back of my throat. However, at a certain point I couldn't be sure if that was real.
