I really need some help

could someone please walk me through making a seperatory funnel? I just ruined another 50 grams of bark on top of the last 50 I ruined by it overflowing out of my makeshift funnel. Thats a little less then 1/4 of the bark that I bought and Im not made of money. The cap on the quart jar I had used the first time wouldnt get air tight again so when I went to shake up the lye/bark it made a mess. I transfered it to a plastic bottle and shook it up and then let it sit for a hour. I added the naptha and then taped the corner of a ziplock bag over the cap thinking it would work as a funnel but when it got towards the naptha some of the lye/bark that hadnt fully drained dripped into the pyrex with the naptha. My first try (that didnt end up working either) I used a cooking syringe to get the naptha out of the lye/bark solution but I still picked up a lot of the bark/lye with it. Could someone please walk me through the building and using of the funnel or an effective alternative? And is it ok to put each pull into the same pyrex or does it have to be separate jars? My last try ended up with me spilling the lye bark all over my kitchen so Im kinda frustrated

I just use a turkey baster. You are bound to pick up some of the basic solution this way, so I use 2 jars. I put all the naptha in the first jar, there is usually a little basic solution left over, just top the jar up with clean water - this will dilute the left over base considerably, suck the naptha off the top and stick it in the second jar, this time beingvery careful not to get the water. you can use a pippette to get the last morsels off the top - the thinner / taller the jar you use, the less wastage there will be. Once you have all your clean pulls, put them all in the same container, evaporate 1/3-1/2 and stick it in the freezer. Hope that helps!

purchase a twist-top gatorade bottle, enjoy/discard contents, rinse, cut off the bottom, turn upside down and voila. makeshift sep funnel. thanks to whatcha for the heads up

interesting. good info! gatorade bottles are made from PET plastic which supposedly does not leach into solutions and according to one member is even used to package naphtha.
