Esteemed member
I unfortunately have quite a bit of experience using iboga rootbark to detox off of kratom leaf, MIT extracts, and 7OH.
There doesn't seem to be much, if any, quality information floating around the internet for an iboga protocol specific to kratom detox, so I am writing this guide to share my experience and protocol with others. Please let me know if you have any questions or see something that needs revising
.
OBJECTIVE:
The purpose of this guide is to provide an overview of my iboga rootbark protocol that I find works particularly well for those physically (and psychologically) dependent on kratom leaf, Mitragynine (MIT) extracts, or 7OH.
This guide is based on my own personal experiences working extensively with iboga over the last 3+ years. What works for me may not work for you, as sensitivity to iboga varies from individual to individual.
DISCLAIMER:
This is not medical advice. Iboga is known to cause serious, life threatening cardiac reactions in certain individuals. It is recommended to get an EKG prior to dosing Iboga to ensure no cardiac defects, as well as to ensure the heart’s QTc interval is not prolonged, as that is thought to be an indicator for adverse reactions.
BACKGROUND:
In the west, for opioid dependence, Iboga/ibogaine is typically dosed in a single, large flood dose at around ~15-30g of rootbark or equivalent ibogaine dose. This method works particularly well when the individual is on short acting opioids like morphine, hydro/oxycodone, or pure heroin (rare), however, this single, large dose does not work well for longer acting opioids, including kratom and kratom extracts. This guide is specific to kratom and its extracts and outlines a multiday dosing protocol. I cannot vouch for whether it works well for fentanyl or other longer acting opioids, as I have never tried, but if I had to guess, it should work better than a single dose.
INTRO/ASSUMPTIONS:
This guide assumes iboga rootbark that is ~5% ibogaine. You can use the equipotent dose of Iboga TA (40-50% ibogaine), PTA (70-80% ibogaine), or even ibogaine (98% ibogaine), where PTA and ibogaine are inherently more dangerous given the much narrower therapeutic indexes compared to rootbark or TA, so dose with caution.
When starting the protocol, I find it best to have not taken any iboga for at least 7 days prior to detoxing, as for me, the detox effect works best when body load is felt, and body load diminishes the more regularly iboga is taken- more on this later.
For 7OH detox, I find it best to switch from 7OH to MIT extracts or Kratom leaf at least 48 hours before starting the detox, with 72 hours or longer being most optimal. If 7OH cannot be stopped before the detox then you may experience precipitated withdrawals (PWD) 6-10 hours into the detox. The PWDs are relatively mild, and depending on the severity, small amounts of kratom leaf or MIT extract can be used to mitigate the symptoms - more details to follow.
For kratom leaf or MIT extract detox, I find abstaining at least 12 hours before starting the detox to be most effective, but I usually only abstain 6-8 hours before detoxing.
This is a multi day dosing protocol, so I make sure my schedule allows for at least 3-4 days of not driving a car or needing to be high functioning. I find iboga to be highly unpredictable in how “out of it” or non functional one will be after dosing. Sometimes I can pop right up after a ceremony and go about my day, while other times I am completely out of commission the entire next day, so plan accordingly.
Another note is that I find cannabis to play nicely with Iboga. Everyone’s different though and it may not play as nicely for you. Cannabis is also known to remove the “pink cloud” effect from an iboga flood, meaning the extremely euphoric feeling iboga gives to some people may be diminished or non-existent, however, that doesn’t make a difference in iboga eliminating withdrawal symptoms.
PROTOCOL:
As mentioned above, iboga's body load is greatest the 1st day you dose it, with each subsequent dose providing less body load. What I have found is the body load is important for resetting the opioid receptors. It seems 4-7 days of iboga abstinence is needed for the body load effects to return.
Day 1:
Day 2: (12-24 hours after 1st dose)
Day 3: dosing throughout day 3
Day 4 and onward
If you weren't able to abstain from kratom by day 3 and 4, you may need to restart the protocol, in which case it's best to stop taking iboga for at least 1 week so when you restart the protocol its effective. Even if you weren't able to abstain from kratom, you should need a much lower dose of kratom than you did before the initial iboga protocol. It's always best to go into the iboga detox protocol on the least amount of kratom.

PROTOCOL:
As mentioned above, iboga's body load is greatest the 1st day you dose it, with each subsequent dose providing less body load. What I have found is the body load is important for resetting the opioid receptors. It seems 4-7 days of iboga abstinence is needed for the body load effects to return.
Day 1:
- Total dose: 4-6g, or even 8g if your dependence is on the higher end, but I have had much success with the 4-6g range. Expect effects to last anywhere from 6-12 hours. You want to be laying down. I like to have calming music playing, but silence is also a vibe on iboga.
- It's always best to go into the iboga detox protocol on the least amount of kratom. As mentioned above, try not to take any kratom for at least 6-12 hours before your first iboga dose, and switch from 7OH to kratom leaf/extract 48-72 hours before starting the detox.
- Iboga can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours to take effect.
- I like to start with 2g, then take another 4g after 1 to 2 hours. Taking all 4-6, or even 8g at once is also fine, but if you’ve never taken iboga before, it’s best to start lower to make sure your body can handle it.
- I know I am in the sweet spot for detox when my ears ring, which is a common iboga side effect. For me, the ears ringing means I’m in a flood state, albeit a very low dose flood state, where brain detox effects shine. This typically happens to me on 4g or above.
- If you are experiencing precipitated withdrawals (PWDs), e.g., mild restless leg syndrome is typically what I experience, you may take a small amount of kratom leaf or MIT extract, however, the PWDs typically only last ~2 hours, so it's best to battle through.
Day 2: (12-24 hours after 1st dose)
- You may have heavy body load during or after day 1 dosing, where you can’t imagine taking any more iboga would be beneficial. The reality is actually counterintuitive, taking more iboga should make you feel better.
- Depending on your withdrawal symptoms, you may not be able to wait the full 24 hours after the 1st dose to take more iboga, so you can take more iboga in 2g increments until the withdrawals subside, where by now you should not have to exceed 6-8g to get rid of acute withdrawal symptoms.
- The goal for day 2 is to get another 6-8g of iboga in. The body load effects of day 2 dosing should be less than day 1, which is why I take a larger dose on day 2.
- If withdrawal symptoms are not manageable on day 2, you can take a small dose of kratom leaf or MIT extract, just enough to make withdrawal symptoms subside. This should be the last day any meaningful amount of kratom is used.
Day 3: dosing throughout day 3
- Iboga’s body load effect should be minimal at this point, where up to 4g of iboga should feel mild and somewhat functional.
- I like to take 2g immediately after the effects from day 2 begin to wear off, then continue dosing in 2g increments every 3-4 hours.
- You may now begin to experience a euphoric sensation from the iboga, in which case, feel free to take more than 2g at a time - listen to your body.
- Depending on my withdrawal symptoms towards the end of day 3, I will take another 4-6g. This should be the last large dose of iboga needed to eliminate acute withdrawal symptoms.
Day 4 and onward
- 1.5-2g in the morning, another 1.5-2g in the afternoon, and another 1.5-2g in the evening, especially If you experience WD symptoms, typically only a runny nose and some sneezing by now.
- Begin titrating down your iboga dosing over the next bunch of days. Get a feel for how the iboga makes you feel and helps with PAWs. You should not need more iboga from here on out, but there’s no reason you can’t continue taking it - listen to your body.
