Glad I came across this thread!
I have a variegated
Trachelospermum jasminoides on a trellis. Might experiment with it.
@Volshebnik are you familiar with the effects of
T. iboga? At low doses it's an adaptogen and in Africa they use it traditionally for hunting. It increases energy, focus and alertness. It also helps them stay awake during night vigils and reduce hunger and thirst.
So not quite the sedating effect you describe from the smoked TJ.
I'm doing a simple A/B iboga TA extraction (vinegar soaks, reduce volume, basify with ammonia) as I type these words.
It looks like the (apparently mildly) toxic compounds in TJ are glycosides, and their solubility is not affected by pH much, so the simple A/B extraction would remove them?
They're not that soluble in water, so the acid soak shouldn't pull much of them to begin with. In the basic soup they could crash out in the presence of an NPS (which is not used here) or a higher ionic strength than dilute ammonia provides.
