Ice cyrstals formed after Freeze Precipitation

I found out a couple helpful answers from the chat but since i cant find anything recent I figured I start a topic about it to help others with the same issue.

So after noticing the ice crystals form in the naphtha in the freezer in all three of my pull containers (I realized I let water get in during pull process) I was told to take all three trays out of the freezer with the naphtha still in them and put them in a room to evaporate by a fan...

After evap. I guess ill be left with the crystals that formed on the sides but a bunch of goo on the bottom of the tray.

I mean i guess the goo is fine but i'd also like to recrystilize it... Now someone did mention a FASA extraction. but couldn't just add the warm naphtha to the trays until everything redissolves and than put it back in the freezer minus the ice this time to recrystallize? or would i benefit greatly from something like a FASA?

Science has a neat, and rather simple solution:

Dehydrate MgSO4 (epsom salts) in an oven, then pour your naptha over some in an air tight container. This will absorb the water. Then filter the naptha off of the MgSO4 and you may precip without ice forming.

I think those might be two unrelated things, the water/ice, and the goo.

If it was just ice, it would melt when out of the freezer, but would eventually evaporate off, and it wouldnt dissolve any of the DMT anyways.

As for the goo factor, it might be related with trace solvent trapped with crystals. Check out the FAQ for the melting crystals question.

How much goo are you talking about? Is it just a very very thin film? Were you using Acacia or Mimosa?

I wrestled with this problem (Acacia) for a fair while until after several successful extractions I realized that the material I was previously using just didn't have enough alkaloids to saturate a solvent enough to form crystalline structures and survive drying. Even if a little ice forms in the tray and you have good material it'll evaporate away leaving behind crystals when put in front of a fan.

I could be wrong, but I suspect if its just a thin layer of film left behind that the material you extracted from was just very low in alkaloid content.

I used ACRB... Actually after just evaporating. I got a fair amount. The goo I was worried about isnt quite as bad as i thought. its a clear film like goo. maybe i should look into my RB supplier though.

its not totally evaporated yet but can i turn that clear film into anything if it is anything?

Does it smell right?

Given that it's only a film, I don't think it's enough to get crystals from even if you redissolved in naphtha, salted it back with an acid and re based to remove any plant fats or oils. Keep evaporating it and see if any of it crystallizes but in the event that it doesn't I'd say make some enhanced leaf/changa. It'll still be pleasant to smoke.

Just make sure you weigh the quantity of leaf/herb before and after you scrub the dish out so you know how much alkaloid you have and can measure a dose safely.

on a side note... i did get quite a few crystals after evap. Its still a little wet but not bad... I definitely need to take better environmental care next time as to avoid this situation. You live and you learn though.
