Since having an awaking experience not so long ago I decided to dawn a wizards robe and learn to conjure the spice myself. After getting lost in threads of reddit and the teks on here I settled on a tek done by "Willy Myco" as it was a step by step in video form I found it was the easiest to digest. It's a simple STB method and while I find it extremely successful (white globes), I do still have some questions that I am hoping to clear up. Before I do, I am going to layout the step by step process I follow, incase I am missing anything that could use some input.

What's need for the tek
50g Lye
50g MHRB (powdered)
200ml Naphtha
750ml Water

What's needed for the re-x
30ml naphtha

1. Boil pot of water and set to the side for the "hot bath" (And replacing with fresh hot water as it cools, I use an enamel Dutch Oven to keep heat as well).

2. Place 50ml of naphtha in a small jar and then inside the hot bath.

3. Mix 50g of lye into the water slowly without letting it build up on the bottom.

4. Once the water clears, add 50g of MHRB and then shake vigorously while "burping" the jar.

5. After the base is thoroughly mixed place in the "hot bath" and let it sit for 1 hour.

6. After shaking the base up one more time,

7. Gently add the 50ml of hot naphtha to the base.

8. Mix the naphtha by rolling the jar back and forth, turning the jar top over bottom and swirling while being carful not to cause emulations. (Then add another 50ml of naphtha to the jar and replace in the bath).

9. After mixing place in the "hot bath" for 30-45 minutes (until there is two distinct layers).

10. Repeat steps 8-9 three times.

11. Syphon off the clear naphtha layer using an LC syringe and transfer into a Pyrex dish.

12. Repeat steps 7-11 three times. (4 total pulls)

13. Place the Pyrex containing the naphtha and DMT into the freezer for 24 hours.

14. Removed the Pyrex from the freezer and syphon of the naphtha slowly as not to suck up to much of the DMT crystals.

15. Pour naphtha in a jar while using a coffee filter to catch in wayward crystals in my syringe.

16. Place pyrex and filter in a ventilated area and let dry. (using a fan on low helps as well).

17. Once dry, smile, scrape and weigh before recrystallizing.

18. Place boiling water into a crock pot and set on low.

19. In one jar add 30ml of naphtha and place it in the crock pot until it is warm.

20. In another jar add the dried DMT and also place it in the crock pot.

21. Once the DMT starts melting add the warm naphtha and begin swirling the jar. (imparities will fall to the bottom).

22. Syphon off what is left in to a pyrex dish.

23. Let sit until it cools off a bit and then place in the refrigerator.

24. After 2 hours place into the freezer for 24 hours.

25. Repeat steps 14-16.

26. Once dry, smile, weigh, enjoy and smile again.


And that is my process. The questions I have are.

1. Is this a solid tek or am I missing anything or do all my times sound right?

2. Could I replace the "hot bath" pot with just using my crock pot (as I think a more consistent temperature would be better). If so, do I use the warm or low setting? (I'm not only worried and the temperature for my yield but I also want to make sure my Mason jars do not bust).

3. I've read forums on sodium carbonate washes, is this necessary if I am also re-xing?

4. On re-xing, I know that heptane is the prefeed over naphtha. But which heptane is better Bestine or lab grade, does it matter?

5. Is there any way to test my results purity?

6. Is this fun or what?

Cyb's tek is pretty solid. I got results. Naphtha can be reused, but as mimosa tenuiflora doesn't typically require a defat step, you may not need as much naphtha as you mentioned. For 3 pulls, you'll need 50ml each -- 150ml. It's totally up to you if you want to recrystallize, I didn't. If you want to use that custom tek, you may want to freeze the powder before-hand, and then add water to the powder and freeze the solution about three times, alternating between freezing and heating the jar. As for the crockpot, if you go with that method, just make sure that the jar isn't too hot; you're supposed to be able to hold the glass with your bare hands without any trouble. Sodium carbonate washes are not necessary.

As for Bestine or lab grade, lab grade is probably almost always going to be better. Lastly, if you don't have the equipment to test for purity, perhaps you could send a sample to www.ecstasydata.org; however, this will cost you money.

That's a pretty standard tek but there are a couple of things you might want to bear in mind for best yields and purity, outside of factors like quality of materials:

5. After the base is thoroughly mixed place in the "hot bath" and let it sit for 1 hour.

6. After shaking the base up one more time,

7. Gently add the 50ml of hot naphtha to the base.

Recent experiments, mostly by (exemplary!) member Loveall, have demonstrated that high pH and high ionic strength are what contributes to the formation of coloured 'impurities'. These (at least in the case of MHRB) are in fact aggregates of polymerised DMT and it's possible to minimise this by adding the ingredients in the following order:
First make a slurry of the mimosa bark in water. [Give it at least a bit of time to hydrate, or warm it up, or put it through a couple of freeze-thaw cycles.]
Then add the naphtha, and finally add the solution of sodium hydroxide (lye). You only need to add enough lye to produce a dark purple-black coloration. If the yields seem low, or if you encounter an emulsion, you can always add a bit more lye later on.

11. Syphon off the clear naphtha layer using an LC syringe and transfer into a Pyrex dish.

It's best to syphon into a Pyrex jug first, just in case you pick up a few droplets of basic soup. Any rogue specks basic soup can then be left in the jug when the naphtha is transferred to the Pyrex dish for freeze precipitation.

By following these step you should be able to do away with recrystallisation entirely. Ditto the sodium carbonate washes - they should be unnecessary if you're careful with your pulls.

I just noticed this. Did you use a mason jar with the corresponding lid? Even the tin lids have plastic on the bottom, which will contaminate your product. I'd recommend pouring the warm naphtha into the jar first, then introducing the base solution and stirring with a glass stirrer.
