Input on A/B Extraction With Acacia Confusa

The volunteer needs input on his outline for a proper Acacia Confusa extraction. Previous extractions using this method produced a tan oil and he is wondering if removing heat will effect the solubility of oils leading to less contamination of the final product and whether a longer defat stage would help. These were done using distilled water, pure lemon juice, "Hi Yield" brand Hydrated Lime, VM&P naphtha and standard table salt.

Acidification
1 Add enough water to cover bark
2 Bring ph to 3
3 Heat 1 hr @ 140F
4 Filter out bark
5 Repeat 1-4 with filtered bark 3 times (then dispose of bark)

Defat
6 Add 10% organic solvent to water by volume
7 Heat 1 hr @140F (well ventilated)
8 Stir periodically
9 Remove organic solvent (then dispose of organic solvent properly)
10 Cool to room temp

Basification
11 Bring ph to 12
12 Add 1% salt by volume
13 Heat 1 hr @140F (or until liquid turns black)
14 Stir periodically

Extraction
15 Add 10% organic solvent to water by volume
16 Heat 1 hr @140F (well ventilated)
17 Stir periodically
18 Remove organic solvent and store
19 Repeat 15-18 3 times
20 Dispose of water

Dehydrating & Crystallization
21 Add 3% salt by volume
22 Allow 10 minutes stirring periodically
23 Filter out salt
24 Freeze or evaporate organic solvent overnight

You need to spend more time reading, there are many many mistakes in your procedure.

The defat isn't all that important with Acacia, do a sodium carbonate wash instead if your worried about contamination.

"17 Stir periodically"
when you add the naphtha, your not stirring, you shake the jar in a figure 8 motion, then roll the jar gently and wait for the layers to seperate, then you repeat this 5-6 times before doing each pull. Same for the defat, you should be shaking the jar not stirring.

"19 Repeat 15-18 3 times"
you should do 5-7 pulls total, not three

"20 Dispose of water"
What water?

"21 Add 3% salt by volume"
nothing should be added to the naphtha

"24 Freeze or evaporate organic solvent overnight"
Let the naphtha sit at room temp for 6-24 hours, then transfer to another baking dish, then freeze it. Each pull you'll have two baking dishes to scrape up.

If you follow this tek properly you'll get good yields. Nice fluffy white crystals as well as yellow/orange/reddish goo. You can re-x if you want purity.

Also, I found defatting to be totally unnecessary with acacia.

What water?

The water the DMT was extracted from after decanting.

nothing should be added to the naphtha

This is to remove water from sloppy decanting (if needed).

Thanks for the tips, I will instruct the volunteer to use sodium carbonate and to roll the mixture instead of using a magnetic stir plate. Thanks for the link Dioxippus.
