Insufflation Problems

Been lurking these forums for quite a while now and been trying to extract DMT with various success. Glad I finally have a reason to post. Last night DMT was extracted (around 2.3 grams using Cybs' Hybrid ATB 'Salt' Tek) and it was rather brown (see pic) so it is being Re-X'd now. However, before then Hyperspace Fool's COCO Tek For Insufflation was attempted.

Around 100mg of the brown DMT was loaded in a shot glass along with around 15 drops of hot water, 10 drops of vinegar, and 5 drops of coconut milk.

After my friend took around 6 sniffs with a nasal spray it was determined that this method simply was not working. My question is was there something wrong with the recipe above? Is the coconut milk okay to use as coconut cream could not be found at Wal-Mart. Was it because the DMT was dirty? Will it work right one the DMT has been Re-X'd?

That DMT is VERY dirty and should not be insufflated. You will see a drastic difference in your re-x. DMT should not be brown or red. DMT should be yellow or white. Brown/red dmt is a sign of base contamination and plant matter still being present in your final product. If i were you i would re-x it a couple times to remove all brown/red.

This. That DMT looks like there is probably a significant amount of base layer contamination (bark and potentially lye), and I would not condone that anyone ingest it before recrystallizing at least twice. Some percentage of that 100mg is impurities, and from the looks of it, that percentage is pretty high. No offense, it's just not safe to ingest DMT that could very well be contaminated with lye. Next time do a sodium carbonate wash of the nonpolar solvent.

As someone who has tried both ROA's, I think insufflation is worth trying once or twice, but vaporizing is definitely the way to go.

I think you probably used way too much vinegar and coconut milk. Coconut cream works much better because it is not as runny as coconut milk. You really want your whole dose dissolved in a couple of drops (ideally 4 or 5 at most), otherwise the liquid will run down your throat into your stomach, wasting the DMT. If it is a small enough amount of liquid, it will coat the inside of your nasal cavities and stay there.

It will work right if you recrystallize your spice, use 1/5 as much liquid as you did before, and buy some coconut cream online.

I knew it was dirty but I didn't know it was that dirty. It was Re-X'd and it's more yellow now but now it is down to 0.8 grams. Darn :/
It will be Re'X'd once more as Entheogenerator suggests.

I'm sure a good amount of the base layer was accidentally sucked up. It seems to take a long time for the naphtha to separate (even in a heat bath) and it was assumed that the separation was simply done. The naphtha layer that was extracted was light brown (kinda like in the picture). Should the naphtha layer should always be clear or yellow?


Also, more liquid was used than recommended in the tek as 5 or so drops wasn't enough to be sucked up in a nasal spray. It was assumed one would just do more squirts to make up for the dilution. I'm guessing for a nasal spray one would need a lot more than 100mg and probably something around several grams?
For now though, do most people just stick with an eye dropper?

For me the nasal spray worked. I used 100mg of spice (clean) and needed eight or nine drops of water to dissolve it. Don't remember the ammounts of the other ingridents, sorry. I can imagine, that you had to use more water cause of the impurites.

I had first effects with two puffs, which were felt pretty fast, maybe about one or two minutes later.

One thing to keep in mind when using coconut cream:

When I put the rest of the spray in the fridge, the coconut cream caused the mixture to harden up.

Maybe I used too much of it, or maybe one shouldn't store it in the fridge.

And I want to add that it feels pretty amazing to smoke DMT while the nasal spray is still active. :lol:

I bet it does steppa (maybe I'll known first hand soon) and thanks for the tip . Did it burn at all with your spray?

The work environment has been cleaned up and lighting was added as it was fairly poor before. Going to be more patient with the naphtha separation (a watched pot never boils and apparently watched naphtha never fully separates).

A new extraction from scratch has begun. Afterwards the insufflation tek will be attempted again using less liquid and the correct coconut cream. I will let you guys know how it turns out. Thanks for the help guys.

Wow, that's a lot of impurity! I'm really glad you decided to re-x. I can almost guarantee that it was contaminated with lye when that picture was taken. If you put your extraction vessel in a warm water bath, the layers will separate faster. :thumb_up:

in my first extraction utilizing cybs tek I had similar "problems" like you. For me the key to cleaner and more spice was to reduce the heat used during extraction drastically. I now never heat the hole thing above 70ºC. And I'm not sure if this temperature isn't too high either. Next one I'll try without going over 55ºC. What I can say is, that using lower temperaures much improved my yield and quality. Also I found out that one should wait with the pulls till the mix has cooled down to at least 30-35ºC to pull less impurities.

//EDIT// So... I just asked cyp about temperatures. With "hot" he meant about 40°C. So, yeah...my 70°C still seem to be way too high.

For the burning in the nose:

No it didn't burn. It was more like tingling, but I have to admit that my nose maybe somewhat used to burning sensations and so I guess I'm no reference here.
