Yes, methyl hydrate is another name for methanol.

No, it can't be used in place of naphtha, as it's completely miscible with water (it won't form a seperate layer).

Also methanol is so polar that it’s insoluble in heptane, but soluble in almost all other solvents. It's the opposite of what you want. It's a great solvent though. It's one of the best alcohols there is. It evaporates really fast and dissolves almost everything. It’s a great water substitute. It can dissolve many polar compounds that are too polar for normal alcohol.

With the common alcohols you have ethanol (drinking alcohol), methanol, and IPA

Here’s the useful info on them.

Boiling points
methanol: 65 C
ethanol: 78 C
IPA: 82 C

Evaporation rates: (Butyl acetate=1)
methanol: 2.1
IPA: 1.7
ethanol: 1.4

XLogP (polarity with negative being more water soluble, more polar)
methanol: -0.5
ethanol: -0.1
IPA: 0.4

Of course it would. Try dry sodium carbonate STB, but do few carbinol pulls on powdered mhbr prior to extraction of dried carbonate+mimosa paste.
