Legal plant proxy for teaching CIELO

I’m looking for a legal, non-cactus plant that could be used to demonstrate the basic principles of CIELO without extracting mescaline.

Ideally it would contain an alkaloid that can be freebased, pulled into an organic solvent like ethyl acetate, then converted back into a crystalline salt.

I’ve thought about hordenine/barley, synephrine or N-methyltyramine from bitter orange, and quinine/cinchonine from Cinchona bark.

Has anyone tried something like this, or know of a plant/alkaloid that would make a good CIELO proxy for teaching purposes?

Coffee may work, AFAIK one of the processes to make decaf coffee uses ethyl acetate to extract the caffeine.
