I've been so busy with plants this past 6 months that haven't done as much music as I'd like.. Just getting back into it though and thought it would be a cool idea to see if any nexians are interested in some kind of distance collaborations?

Is super easy to get an idea going and bounce the stems out to send people via email.. I have lots of loops I have started recently that haven't eventuated into anything yet..

thoughts?

This topic is unlocked again, I completely misread the OP and thought it was about trading plants etc. 🤪

@acacian explained it to me and it's about uploading music files onto the forum which other users can download and add their own ideas to. And that is exactly one of the purposes of our new Media section!

So please continue with this great idea, and if there is any help needed for setting this up in the Media section then please let me know.

I will add a starter loop today.. very excited where this might go. There is no doubt many talented musicians here.. I bet we can get some great music going! .. maybe a nexus EP one day 📀 😉

Okay.. here is a loop. Attached is a compressed folder with the stems that make up that loop - ready to be imported into your DAW. Whatever you add can then be bounced back as stems. I think it would be fun for everyone if the master channel is also uploaded each time so we can all hear the progress as it comes. Have at it 🙃

[EDIT] @The Traveller .. is there a way to have audio files integrated in the thread with a play button? Currently when I click on the file it takes me to another page. Either way it is still downloadable so that is cool.

Pretty cool loop @acacian and I dig the idea a lot. I might come up with some stuff to contribute to this. I wish I could record my handpan, but for the love of me I can't find where I put the stick-on microphone that came with it, and I don't have a microphone with a high enough fidelity to record it in the room...But I do have a bunch of libraries and Cubase 12 Pro so might give it a shot at some point. Are we aiming for some specific vibe/genre, or just whatever comes?
 
I think so but I'm not great with time signatures.. and counting it out it is a tad wonky. I didn't write it in on the grid so is probably a bit off.

I was already enthused by Void's dulcet tones from the last SHE so we'll see how this shapes up with a few samples chopped up from that recording, which I think is also available in the reource section.
(There is a slight trick required in that presently those vocals would possibly need to be extracted from backing music.)

@Transform I have an application that can strip the vocals off of any track. You can download it free here too.

@acacian the music subforum has a thread with a collaborative playlist on Spotify, I would love for you to help us build it up

Thanks, presumably spoken word with incidental music isn't too dissimilar - I'll have a tinker and see what can be done(otherwise I'll be pestering @Voidmatrix for a recording session!)

I've created an album in the Media - Music section:

The media section works a bit different than I thought. So what I have done is the following:
  • Created a new category under Media -> Music:

    Lets make some music together!

    Create your own album here to share and collaborate into creating music! It's about uploading music files onto the forum which other users can download and add their own ideas to.

There is a program called Spleeter which you can run a single audio file through and it will do its best at separating it into stems. I think you can go up to 5 stems. There are usually some artefacts left over but it gets you a fair bit of the way there.. a bit of EQ will often sort it. I find it really useful for extracting vocals or even other random sounds I like out of a sample. There are several websites that use the algorithm.. I use Ezstems.

[EDIT] but it looks like Subtlevibrations has a better option! That's awesome!

And @PsyloCiBeen add whatever you like .. no rules here. We will just need to establish some sort of timeline is all.. if everybody is adding to the same part at once it could get wierd combining all of the ideas. But lets see how it goes.. it won't no doubt have a bit of a teething process.

Perhaps to start, each person could contribute in sections of 32/64 bars.. then onto the next person etc. That way each person's contribution is respected as an idea and the next person can rift off that idea. Whereas if we all just have at that starting loop it might be hard for it to go anywhere.

More loops to come.. if you guys don't vibe on the one I uploaded there's plenty more in the bank.
