Lets make some music together!

Perhaps to start, each person could contribute in sections of 32/64 bars.. then onto the next person etc. That way each person's contribution is respected as an idea and the next person can rift off that idea. Whereas if we all just have at that starting loop it might be hard for it to go anywhere.

More loops to come.. if you guys don't vibe on the one I uploaded there's plenty more in the bank.
I gave it my best at the loop you shared but it being freeform and in a bit funky of a time sig made it difficult for me, not gonna lie. It's 100% a skill issue though. I'm finding recently that my musical inspiration is quite...limited. Not sure what to attribute that to, but yeah.

Cool groove @The Traveler .. do you have the stems for it still?

@Subtlevibrations .. that’s a good idea. We can roll with that for sure.
Yes, after a long search I found them!

However they are in the very old Cubase .ARR and .ALL format and I do not have a license anymore to install Cubase 3 to convert them. 😆

So if anyone of you still has the means to convert them to modern files, then I can send you those files, and have them converted to a more modern DAW format (I myself use Presonus Studio One).

Kind regards,

The Traveler

I'm game. I didnt really find the time signatures weird but it could be that when i loaded the original stems into ableton, it may have automatically made them 4/4. Ive added a couple of small simple loop stems to maybe go in the back ground at times . I reckon this'll be at the top of the hit parade in no time...

Hug454 methinks that fits like a glove! .. really dig the stuttering arpeggio. Feeling some similar vibes to The Orb. A vibe I love.

Hopefully time permits and I'll have a crack at it tomorrow :)

So, I'm here tooling with the project files, and I have a couple of insights:
1 - we should probably decide on a tempo. The tempo for your orignal loop @acacian looks something like 124.333 bpm.
2 - gain staging - the loops all seem pretty quiet. Whenever we finish writing our songs, I am more than happy to help in the mixing and mastering. As we are all adding to a project from different DAWs, it can sometimes be difficult to discern what was intentionally quiet vs what was rendered quiet.

I really like the wavy, slow, underwater vibes going on in the track right now :) I have a cool idea to use the existing loop as an intro and swell into a big psytrance drop with lots of underwater atmosphere. Give me a couple days to play with it and I'll upload something <3

All good points @Subtlevibrations

Yeah sorry I didn’t gain stage .. often with more abstract stuff I tend not to as I find the volume of the different elements can require a little shifting.

I always do often render my tracks pretty quiet though and let the mastering wizard bring up the volume .. maybe not a great habit but some engineers like having the extra headroom to play with.

Sounds like an interesting idea.. I’d be surprised if a stock standard dugga dugga fitted with that loop but would love you to prove me wrong 😃

I agree with all the points made by Subtlevibrations. I think we should agree on the tempo and gainstaging, but other than that, the loops sound cool.

I didn't quite get the right tempo/subdivision in this particular example, but I'll try providing some drum sounds on this, or other nexus projects. I really like the idea of music made by nexians, together.

Thanks Acacian, i think that my default mode is probably quite orb like. As far as the gain staging and different levels go, i am sending stems that are hopefully at the same levels as the primary stems. I don;t know about other daws but my ableton has a very useful gain utility for messing with the levels. And i dont know how everyone else feels but as i see it any stems that are posted are a free for all for other members to use and arrange how ever they see fit. Louder, quieter, inside out and every which way possible. My daw loaded your stems up as 83 point something bpm. I have a few other bits but i would rather not monopolise and let other members put their flavours in. I am very happy making noises but not so hot at the arrangement bit.....

I really like this outlook. I also resonate with the sentiment of letting all of the cooks into the kitchen.

To allow maximum creative liberty and also retain some necessary structure, let's each be sure to let one another know what tempo we rendered our stems at, if not uniform. If you have a tempo in mind for this particular track @acacian , I would love for us to follow that course.

Ok.. was a bit of a process figuring it out. But I used the tap function in Live to tap along to the groove and 124.45 fits with the groove much better and in 6/4 .. at this bpm your kick and snare are on the right hits from the metronome for the first couple cycles.. after a while it will be off. Its close enough though that I can re-do the loop so that it fits into that bpm. Or maybe will just round to 124. Obviously I want the beat to feel off kilter still but I'll make sure the new stems have the kick and 'snare' on the down beats in a set tempo! bare with me.. haven't had much time for music this week and I'm abundantly aware I've left you in unclarified wonkville :)

And @Nydex I'd be keen on something like that! I'm not classically trained but would none the less love to bring some textures/atmospheres to the table.
I'm far from classically trained as well lol, I don't even know music theory...Thankfully I have this useful tool called Scaler 2 that helps a lot. But there's just something about a good orchestral composition that tickles my fancy like no other genre does. I'll see what I can come up with and share it when it feels ready.
