Liquid Culture Jar Question

Migrated topic.

I'm making starting some liquid cultures this weekend using extra light malt extract.

I've seen different ways of preparing the jars, some with one hole covered in silicone sealant and others with 2 holes (one with the silicone and another with tyvek over it for gas exchange).

I like the idea of having the jar be sealed and shakeable with just the one hole. Will not having a gas exchange hole have any ill-effects on my liquid culture.

Thanks in advance & Blessings

Nope you'll be fine. LC doesn't need FAE (Free Air Exchange). the mycelium is submerged. whatever oxygen it gets or would need would be from the O in h2O.

Next time you want to make some LC try some Karo light corn syrup or the clearest honey in your cupboard...save you a few $.

Yeah the hole is for a inoculation point. I like to drill a hole out and use those foam ear plugs to stuff in it. its resealable and you can shake.

So far... so good... 2 jars of PES Amazonian and 1 jar of Albino A+
