I purchase caustic soda flakes but im not sure the purity, i cant seem to find it on the bag. I bought it from a farm supply store and when purchasing the guy asked me if i was making soap and i thought pure lye was needed for soap making so im hoping he was implyin that but is there any possible way to tell how pure it is ferrshure. And if not whats the consequences of using non pure lye if im doing a sodium wash

If your unsure about the purity of your ingredients, i wouldnt continue. Pure food grade NaOH is extremely cheap on the internet. And as long as your not ordering tons i wouldnt worry about someone catching on.
Being half ass and using drain cleaner and tap water in your milk carton just seems really dirty to me.

Yeah I found NaOH "drain-cleaner" that is 99% purity and used it. However, there is still that extra 1%... there is likely something unsavory in that last fraction. The last time I used the drain-cleaner I noticed a slight film on the top of the water that looked a little gray... like almost a little metallic... would there be any metal-powder added to the drain-cleaner? Who knows, other than the manufacturer. I will be getting food-grade from now on regardless. It only makes sense, seeing as we are technically eating these things and if smoking/vaaping then you don't even have first-pass metabolism to protect you.

Look up the MSDS on any product you buy. Do try to find food grade. However, I am a little afraid of ordering online what with all the oppression. But, just don't use a credit card and if you're really worried send it to a temporary P.O. box or something... I don't know,
