Lye question

So my friend seems to think he didn’t get a good yield because it needed more lye but the solution ph was 13 with the amount of lye used. Is that all that’s needed is a ph of 13 or is more lye required to increase yield? I told him only getting to 13 was sufficient and the rest was just wasting lye. Who is right?

Lye helps break down plant material, making it easier for DMT to be released into the solution. This takes a bit of time, so adding more lye will speed things up and allow for faster extraction.

So it’s not necessarily the lye but the whole process that determines how each individual ingredient is performing.

We used the same process that we always do just used less lye

I also have a lye question. Say Lime was initially used to start but not enough to completely basify. Would there be any serious risk in then using lye to bring to the required ph level?

Yes, that’s not a problem, but as noted above the lye does more than just convert the dmt into its freebase form.
