You need 100% sodium hydroxide! Anything less and you have impurities and it wont work, or you will get poisoned and die....
Be VERY careful when hunting for lye. Get it from a soap making place, janitorial warehouse or food grade lye for canning.
Just save that drain cleaner, you might get a plug someday. That's what I did!
