a relative is experiencing hormone shifts due to chemo and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on MACA root and its phyto-chemical makeup and if this is just the latest super food trend or if there is actual merit to the claims.

I chose this forum for its logic and honesty, just want to help my relative...

thanks,

I think it's always wise to consult the doctors who're responsible for the whole chemo-treatment. Or at least to tell them if your relative decides to experiment with supplements. That way they can monitor for unforseen reactions, and maybe they'll even learn something new that can help other people as well.

I would definitely look into Maca on behalf of your friend...while I'm not sure regarding the science of its phytohormones, it is highly nutritious and contains antioxidants so may well be of benefit for someone undergoing chemo.
