Manske->Methanol->Goo->Huh? question

So I did the old Manske plan on some rue and had a nice little pile of "sparkling dirt".

I then mixed in some methanol (per the tek), filtered through a coffee filter into my glass baking pan, let it evap (95% dry) and then...(not per the tek) I put it in a 250˚F oven for about 20 min to give it some evaporation boosting.

Now I have goo that's like a brown candy-ish consistency but it still flows (albeit too slowly to see).

Did I wreck the plan by adding heat to the equation? Should I just redissolve in methanol and leave to evap without heat?

You should be fine. You can dissolve and re-manske the xtals to get nicer ones.

right on, thanks - this is still a salt right? impurish harmala hcl?

Might there be an easy path to FB with my goo? Dissolve in h2O - add base (maybe some ammonia)- would that precip FB harmalas?
