Max Ion Tek Step Help

Hello fellas,
SWIM is a tad bit confused on the "Pull" section on Cyb's Max Ion Tek. In order it states
"9. Pull solvent to cool to room temp. then store in fridge to aid in crystal forming .
10. Repeat pulls x6 (with warm/hot NPS). Combine the pulls with the NPS in the fridge.
11. When all done evaporate down the combined NPS using a cooling fan by around 40%, or until milky."

SWIM's question: Does he make do the first pull, put the naphtha in the jar, put the jar in the fridge, and then proceed to do pull #2, and the put pull #2 in the same jar in the fridge? I guess what SWIM is wondering is what is the point of throwing the naphtha in the fridge between pulls? Because when evaporated down, wont SWIM need to take the naphtha out of the fridge anyhow? And if so, how long would this typically take to evaporate 40% of the naphtha away? SWIM evaporates it down before putting it in the freezer, correct?

I hope that all makes sense, or if someone could reword the step in more detail that would be wonderful.

The instructions say to let the naptha cool to R.T. first before sticking it in the fridge, but otherwise you've got it.

Yep.

SWIM evaporates it down before putting it in the freezer, correct?

Correct. You want to maximize the concentration of DMT in your solution before freeze precipitation.

I think cyb mixed up the steps here a little bit. Sticking the naptha in the fridge should come after evaporation and before the freezer. Also the entire fridge business shouldn't be necessary for the initial precipitation if you plan on doing a recrystallization.

These are the instructions:

7. Add minimal amount of ‘warm/hot’ NPS (Non Polar Solvent) (Light Naphtha or Heptane/Hexane) Immediate mix/shake before temperature equilibrium occurs.
8. Settle to allow for separation and repeat mix/shake x 3 (transfer should be fairly rapid).
9. Pull Solvent from the mix and store in jar. Allow the solvent to cool to room temp then store in fridge to aid in crystal forming.
10. Repeat Pulls x6 (with warm/hot NPS) Combine the pulls with the NPS in the fridge .
11. When all done evaporate down the combined NPS using a cool fan by around 40%, or until Milky.

The point of the fridge is to cool the NPS from Hot to Very Cold...as slowly as possible.
The slower that the solvent is cooled, the larger the crystals should form.

Once you have all your pulls together (cooling in the fridge) then you can (cold fan) evap down to a more concentrated amount...then freeze for the rest of the precipitation.
(You may find that precipitation is already occurring while in the fridge...this is fine and will give a good start to crystal formation as the seeds will be there.

Look you guys can keep you're nap collection jar in a warm water bath till you collect all pulls then once together place in precipe dish then cool slowly then freeze precipe as normal !! Cyb maybe if you keep making mistakes it's time to hang up the ph meter old boy !! Haha

Last stupid question I promise. Is it possible to evaporate TOO much naphtha?

Well, yes. Evaporating all of it or almost all of it would be too much, as you'll get oils and other non-DMT materials coming out of the solution and the point of freeze precipitation is to avoid just that.

60% is not too much.

Sorry for digging the thread but it seems good place to post.

Im confused about step 9. If i put my pull in the jar and let it cool down to room temperature i will have some crystals already start forming at the bottom of the jar(or at least some white residue). When i put this jar in the fridge and start another pulls even more crystals/resedue will form as it takes a lot of time between adding pulls to the jar By the time i finish pull 6 there will be enought material that will be left at the bottom of jar when trying to place everything in pyrex dish.
My question is that during pulls should i also mix the pull jar to stop this from forming or am i understanding it wrong?

Those crystals will act as seeds for further crystal formation when further pulls are added. You can re-use naphtha after freeze precips for better efficiency overall.

Pyrex dishes are convenient for scraping but not strictly necessary. The jar fits in the freezer better and its lid is more effective unless your pyrex has one of those clip-top lids. Just make sure no basic soup gets into your freeze precip container.

Thanks for the fast reply. Ive used 3 pyrex dishes without lid just straped it with cooking foil and stack them one on another (1st with 2 pulls, 2nd with another 2, 3rd with 2-3 pulls). Does it affect the process? I would like to stick to pyrex dishes as it is very easy to scrap. What is the best way to do it? Am i thinking correctly (sorry but it been looong time since my last extraction):

- pull with 60c namptha and put it to pyrex dish leave it outside the fridge
- start another pull while first pull is reaching room temperature outside the fridge
- put second pull to the same pyrex dish and wait some time for it to reach room temperature
- put the pyrex to cool in the fridge
- take it our and evap a bit with fan
- put in freezer
