So i spotted this bush growing nearby and was wondering if you guys could help identify it, I know it's definately not mimosa but it has long red downward pointing spikes. I have attached some pics for you guys :)

Thanks

^^ agreed.....those spikes flatten my bike tires!!

On a different note, are there active plant species in the midwest? Fruit grows well, grapes will grow themselves and berries go crazy in the clay rich soil.

Desmanthus, phalaris species grow in the Midwest I believe.

According to trout's notes, 2nd edition, honey locust contains tryptamines, but taking root and trunk bark stresses the tree. They're native in my area and I'm growing some to experiment with the stem bark once they get bigger.
