Movie bin

Migrated topic.
This is probably one of the most depressing films that i have ever seen. It sent me into an existential black hole for weeks after i watched it..

Speaking of Arrival, OK, so are we gonna talk about Dune? I for one am a fan of Vilaneuve's sci-fi vision. Folks either seem to love him or hate him. He is a master at portraying wide open vistas and cinematic world creation and put it to good use in this film. I enjoyed the mix of alien tech combined with elements recognizable as Earth military technology like the ornithopter controls and communication gear. I watched it on my laptop first but think I'll splurge on seeing it in the theatre, maybe even 3-D on shrooms or something. The local freepaper gave it their "pile of turd" rating which they rarely use and I balk at that. I admit to not having read the book (I am more of a non-fiction guy, although I am currently re-reading the Illuminatus trilogy), so I can't speak to its accuracy as a filmic adaption. What do y'all, especially fans of the source material think?
One of the worst movies I've ever seen, constant disappointment, failed orgasm type of feeling through the whole thing and specially the end.

Now that I've gone thus far, I'd recommend ashes and snow 2007, it's like a docu, interesting

I just watched the new one a couple of weeks ago and I love it as much as I do the original, but for different reasons.

Both try to really pay homage to the original source material in their own ways. The first I see as a fast forwarding of almost the entire book, covering as many bases as possible of pertinent details emanating from the book. The newest one is more detail oriented, which may make it a bit "slower" but it's still thoroughly engaging for me.

I prefer the depiction of Jessica in the new movie over the original. She's portrayed with a great deal of balance and willpower in the book and I feel like the new movie brings that out. The original appears to have defaulted to societal tropes of how women are perceived and expected to behave and react to dire circumstances and situations.

One love

It seems like it has been awhile since anyone posted here. I know some of these will be repeats but I hope some are new:

Sons of the Desert (painfully funny)
Some Like it Hot (very funny)
One, Two, Three (timeless amped up classic)
Holy Mountain
Blueberry aka Renegade (A psychedelic Western with battles in hyperspace)
Cloud Atlas
Crime of the Century (not happy but a MUST see to understand the opiate crisis)

This last one is real special:

Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present

Scavengers reign

A cool animated series about an alien planet flora and fauna

Scavengers reign

It kind of feels like... an Hayao Miyazaki film mixed with Rick and Morty stuff...
in a hostile planet with Moebius comic artstyle.

This is a link to watch it:

This movie (Poor Things) is a trip. It really divorces psyche, development and culture and what we are shown is disturbing, amusing, enlightening and so much more.

Poor Things
It was an incredible disappointment for me. Not dictated by the expectations I had before seeing it, but the expectations I created while watching it (at the cinema when it came out months ago). An incredible potential for philosophical and anthropological exploration that ultimately crashed into the great banalities of the controversies of our time. It will not face the challenge of time well.
