mushroom extraction

I know this was asked before, but i just wanted to run through what I'm planning on doing with you all so that you may spot some obvious flaws.

starting from psilocybin cubensis, pulverize to a dust and soak in hot 100% etOH. wash a few times, (filter with a buchner funnel), combine, and reduce volume to ~1/2 while avoiding a boil

then i want to use a vacuum flask to evaporate the etOH. does this work?

weigh what i got, and redissolve in 100% etOH to some known concentration. from someone who has done this, what is the best concentration? I really don't know how soluble the percipient will be in room temp etOH... basically i'm asking what is the best way to make a tincutre.

or is there a better substance to redissolve? could you just make a batch of lemonaid with it where 1 shotglass volume is about 20mg?

what you described will work, but I'm not sure about how one would go about dosing without determining the conc. from Beer-Lambert.

I did an extraction with methanol, rotavap'd to dryness, and added tea to the flask and drank it like that. lemonade would certainly work. if you're going to make a tincture, use everclear or some other high-proof ethanol. I'd be a bit wary of using absolute ethanol

i was hoping on just going by the weight of the powder... assuming that the extract will be around 30% pure... and dissolving in a known volume of tea....

of course the best way to dose a batch would probably just be bio-assaying it

Why waste the ethanol? Distill it off for later use.

I used a vacuum desiccator. It works, sort of. Not to complete dryness. I managed to get 20 ml of thick yellow goo from 30 g of dry cubes.

Rotovap is better, but not ideal.

Why bother with alcohol? Warm water + honey for better taste, or OJ works great.

I dosed 2 ml of extract per person (equal to ~3g of dry cubes) and dissolved it in fresh OJ for 30 min. For 2 of us it worked even better than 3 g of dry. I prefer mushrooms this way because of less nausea.
