Music and Ayahuasca

Migrated topic.
Hi all,

It seems to be the case that it is universally accepted in guides that one should play calming music during an Ayahuasca session.

Has anyone here experimented with going against this, playing something fast, high tempo, high energy.

Or something which didn't fit the typical preconceptions but was music you loved?

If so, what was the result?

I would like to share that for me personally I dislike listening to music whilst in these spaces.

It is not that it isn't beautiful it is just that it isn't helpful in my use case.

Silence is a far more preferable platform for communion.

For me song is the vehicle for navigating the ayahuasca space and perhaps all psychedelic space (except for Salvia ime). I've heard all kinds of recorded music before, I much prefer live music myself, especially punctuated with bouts of silence.

What works for a particular moment/vibe takes skill and sensitivity to perceive. Reason I say perceive is that so often in group ceremonies I might hear a song clear as day in my mind and a minute later someone starts singing it as if they heard it too or visa versa. I feel as one learns to sing into that space a channel of perception opens up that one perceives the energy in the room as songs/tunes that can assist the space.

If a guide only plays calming music I would say they're probably inexperienced, at least that's my opinion. There are times when a bit of tempo and and energy go a long way in managing the space. I've been in quite a few different spaces over the years and those who I feel really know what theyre doing would definitely opt for a high intensity song in certain spaces. High intensity doesn't always mean bringing the medicine on stronger either, sometimes it brings the room back from being too strong, usually via strong purging lol.

My experience is you need a range of songs for all the spectrum of energy one encounters in that space, which is probably to say you can't have enough songs lol.

So I guess to conclude, in complement to the many wonderful recorded music suggestions having been made here I highly encourage people to sing. If singing feels confronting all the more reason to do it. Doesn't matter if you're solo or in groups, singing can really help guide the experience.
