I'd like to thank the forum for being Shpongle obsessed for obvious reasons! One of the best new additions to a life long music obsessed person. I miss the old days when we all had walkmans and I could make awesome mixes to indoctrinate my friends with my music. Being able to find the songs that flow right after the other and use the fading to make the transition was so much fun.
For a long time I have been a fan of the electronic/heavy/experimental scene. From super light fun to super dark. I can't ever see myself tiring of:
Can (old school krautrock. Albums 'ege bamyas'i, 'tago mago' and 'future worlds' are essential imo)
The Legendary Pink Dots
The Tear Garden (Pink dots + skinny puppy = yes please)
Skinny Puppy
Download (Members of Skinny Puppy + others. Actually like the first two albums more than skinny puppy)
Meat Beat Manifesto
Coil
Current 93 (somewhat dark, but beautiful ranging from chaos/noise to apocalyptic folk. Heavy gnostic themes. Not for everyone)
Irr.App.(Ext) (totally surreal odd stuff. Hard to find much on Youtube. I highly, highly highly (I mean it!) checking out "Ozeanische Gefühle" if you can find it)
Mouse on Mars (getting more fun/upbeat. I think shpongle fans will love these guys especially Iaora Tahiti and Autoditacker)
Boards of Canada
--------
Minimalist/Droney
Mirror, Andrew Chalk, Jonathan Coleclough (all have links with each other. Typically very long slowly changing pieces)
Stars of the Lid
--------
More standard Indie(ish)
Neutral Milk Hotel
Explosions in the Sky (so much
for this)
Panda Bear (and animal collective too sure)
---------
Classical
So glad I finally got off my ass and delved into classical. I am finding I like String arrangements the best. So far the Quartets and one Quintet of Schubert are amazing new additions.
(quintet. If you aren't grabbed from 0 - 1:30 I think there might be something wrong with you
)
(quartet 14 pt 1)
--------
And the newer almost classics I really don't need links to:
Beatles, Bowie, The Cure, Joy Division, The Flaming Lips, The pixies, A tribe called quest, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive Spiritualized. I could go on and on to be honest
Music is such a driving force in my life!
