My First Extraction

Hey everyone! So as promised, I took some pics during my first extract. I did not have a second set of hands available unfortunately so I did not take as many as I wanted. But enjoy! I used a variation of Noman's Tek for the following extraction and will be doing an evap. Ingredients used are listed below:

40g MHRB (pre-powdered)
900ml Distilled Water
60g Sodium Hydroxide
20ml Naphtha (per pull)

The evap result. Please excuse the color as it is reflecting my brown desk, but it does have a slightly off-whitish, slightly brown color to it. Haven't officially weighed, but I'd say about 0.5g's? Shows what can happen when one follows the directions and does their research!

White background contrast per request. Not super white, but it is definitely what I had my first time doing this particular substance!

Sorry. I can't hold it in anymore.
You got some gunk in your extraction. I can see it in the dish on the left side. It is brown.
So on all of your pulls you want to be VERY careful to not get that in your precip container. This is poison!
You will HAVE to clean your product you have, or you are risking getting lye in your lungs.
Just re-crystallize it and you will have some nice spice! Then next time extracting, do the decant and pour that in a small skinny container and let the gunk / goo fall to the bottom and pull the solvent out with an eye dropper very careful to not get any (not even a small bead) of the gunk in the final product! Then you will have pure spice that doesn't need cleaning after and will look white to a little off white yellow.

Take your time and learn the best ways, you have a lot of mhrb to work with and perfect your method

Synergy - Brazillian bark is supposed to be best. I have never heard of mexican being ok. But if someone has tried Mexican, please let us know. I think I read on here someone got bad results from it, but maybe it was just one batch. The company says its good though.

Thanks for the tips! Yeah, I was a little disappointed with my first pull but I did four more after that and the naphtha was way cleaner those times around. I used a pie dish and separated what brown I could. I will definitely try your method though with the eye-dropper thing!

Please don't be worried about criticizing. Just try not to be TOO mean! lol

@nd batch. Sorry about the lighting, but it is a piss yellow color with no brown whatsoever. The things I did different this time is instead of letting the naphtha come out of the filter directly into the evap dish, I put it into a separate jar, let any brown contaminant settle to the bottom, took a syringe, and took out the pure yellow naphtha and put into the pie dish and let it evaporate. And this is what I got!

Hi Sil. It was very interesting for me to read your post,since I ready to beguining my first spice extraction. Im been reading dozens of ext tek ,treads about chemistry on Nexus and all the stuff during the last three months. It took for me about a couple of months to find all the materials( plant and lab materials) that I expect to need to acomplish the job. Finnaly,I think I´m ready!! It was great to watch your pics in here,they give me an idea on how my final results must look like. I finnaly choose for a A/B tek,since I expect to find a more pure product...do you think I´m rigth?. Thank you and excuse my weak english.

Thanks! Yes, I did finally try some of it and let me tell you.... MIND BLOWING! Very, very excellent stuff! The more refined product definitely proved to be worth the extra steps! I will definitely post pics when I move to doing the freeze precipitation for purification. Stay tuned!

Thanks for following my first extraction journey!

It is very good that you are reading the teks and threads about chemistry. Those were my first starting points when researching the extraction process as well.

Find a tek and process that you like, study it, memorize as much of it as you can, and you'll be surprised how easy it is! The first pulls might look kinda like mine did when first starting and perfecting your method, but don't be discouraged! Save it as it can be washed for pure crystals. You'll get better and better with experience and practice! Also, always remember, SAFETY FIRST!
