My First P. viridis Babies

After a couple of unsuccessful attempts at propagating Psychotria viridis from cuttings, I finally got a couple of leaves to root for me and they have begun to put forth little plantlets! There are three little guys growing, one of which is still very new so it might be difficult to see in the pictures (it is in the back left of the first pic). The ones in the back look a little bit lanky, so I'm thinking that maybe they need more light. I think I am finally beginning to develop my green thumb beyond the scope of cacti!

I have two cuttings growing in a big pot, covered with a translucent plastic humidity dome. I spray them with water periodically when the soil begins to feel dry. I have yet to fertilize them, but the soil mix they are in is pretty rich so I think they are alright without.

Congratulations! Lovely little babies...

Make any changes to your lighting slowly and carefully- they really are understory plants that do best with primarily shade or early morning light only, especially in bright climates.

Here's a pic of my babies- the big guy in the back by the ginger is a p. alba, but all the others are p. viridis. They just had their first birthdays this week.

Thanks. They've weathered some noob gardening mistakes on my part, but are starting to roll now. Can't wait for them to be mature enough to share leaves with others.

Sure, 1/3 perilite, 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 organic soil. High humidity (90%-100%) and warm temps.

Update! The one little plantlet seems to be very healthy. I think he might be about big enough to isolate and repot! :d :thumb_up:

I wouldn't isolate it.... I'd just leavem, less stress and they'll grow better attached to the leaf.

Also, look at that plantlet, it needs a ton more light.

Oh I know. For the time being I have just been spraying them 1-2 times a day with water and that seems to do the trick. Once I move into a bigger space I will set up some sort of humidity tent or mini-greenhouse for them
