nalgene as chem vessel?

Migrated topic.

Hello, I was reading on here that a glass turkey baster (or anything glass at all for that matter) is not necessary for holding solvent (naphtha) layer. But what about extremely basified water? Would it work to use something like a nalgene bottle to hold NaOH water + naphtha in, or is a glass vessel required for that mixture?

Apparently using nalgene or other high-impact plastics makes it easy to remove extract. It won't bond to the plastic like it does with glass.
Using plastic collection jars promotes easy removal of the extract (it simply pours out), and avoids tedious scraping of surfaces and the inevitable waste of some material.

nalgene bottles used in lab applications are HDPE; commercial nalgene used for water bottles are
LDPE. avoid using the latter, it will not hold up well against nonpolar solvents.

limonene will slowly destroy the nalgene made of lexan. acetone will etch it instantly! i also dont think they like high ph.

the hdpe version are very resilient.
