needles in naptha before pulling

Evening, I might be risking a FAQing here but I couldn't find any info.

I just pulled from a STB (50g bark/50g lye/25g salt/750ml spring water) and between the naphtha and the mhrb soup there is a layer of cm long needle crystal looking things. I have never seen them before and was wondering if anyone has encountered them.

I was assuming they were DMT so I added some warm naphtha after my cold pulls to see if it would pick them up, it didn't seem to.

I will add a pic tmoz to show them.

Any ideas what they could be if they weren't DMT? Salt maybe?

Try separating it manually and redissolving in some warm naphtha. I think it might be that your pull is so saturated that when a bit of it evaporated, some dmt crystallized already. And if you try to dissolve it by doing more pulls, maybe it would dissolve but more difficultly because the solvent will be full with the rest of the DMT in the basified acqueous layer.

that may be the answer, i was only using about 20-25ml of naptha per pull for 3 pulls. i will seperate the needles when i get home and try to dissolve them in some warm naptha

heres the needles, they are on the surface of the soup after the solvent has been pulled

Hey 3rdI

I reckon 25ml Nap is a really small amount and its supersaturated...
Try Increasing to 50/60ml and put it in Warm...it will probably soak up the needles.

your probably right as well. ive only just started extracting crystals, im normally a jimjam kind of fella, for some reason i failed repeatedly with the Q21Q21 tek2 so im just starting to play around with STB.

cheers for the tips, i will let you know how it turns out.

i do like the darts, they look lovely, but there no good in the jar:d

Same thing has happened to me while extracting with warm solvent. When the solvent starts to cool... and since DMT is not soluble in cold naphtha... the crystals start to crash out while still above the base soup. As others mentioned, adding heat easily resolves the situation.

I have absolutely no idea why it didn't work, I tried every variable I could think of and still no joy.

Strange thing is that I got the Q21Q21 jimjam tek to work just fine.

STB is working OK though so I'm sticking to that for crystals. Everyone else seems to do OK so you should give it a crack.

Should the basified solution be warmed as well? if so when? before, during or after the addition of naptha?

I would try adding more basified water to the solution and mix well. Then pull with more naptha.:thumb_up:

You should try filtering some of those out for curiosity, let them dry, and try smoking some lol. They look cool.

why would you add more water? i used a little over 15:1 ration of bark to water.

to late now, i added warm naptha and there all gone. but i could always try to get some more, they do look cool

3rd I. This has happened to me before during an accident in overstepping one of my procedures. There was some ph chemical reaction. and these harmala alkaloids pure and white were scooped right off the top of an ipa/acetone involving recipe swim was using. holding them with a spoon- I couldn't have been any luckier! super potent!

I recommend if all else fails- scooping them out with a spoon. than A/B wash still keep trying to pull what might remain if there is actually anything left down there at all.

Because adding more basified water would lower pH and make the soln less concentrated. Swim has gotten strange crystals to form when pH wasnt low enough, and its common sense that concentrated solutions may precipitate crystals. So adding basified water would likely help.

But hey glad you got them to pull into the warm naptha.
