New 'Attitude' link

Migrated topic.
One can still hold their own opinion.

But disregarding what someone says, and claiming it as garbage because it doesn't suit their own personal opinion is completely deconstructive to any knowledgable gain on the forum. Whether or not you agree with someone, getting worked up about someone elses opinion is your own problem, and arguing about it, and not having any conduct or courtesy for others ends up making people look like fools.

Me as a person, I swear all the time, I don't talk like the way I type. But since the moment I first laid eyes on this forum and started posting I knew it was a very progressive internet society filled with people who are a lot smarter than I am. That is why I stayed here, not like the shroomery where people although smart, make themselves out to be complete assholes, and its unappealing to fellow psychonauts, and I think it makes the psychedelic crowd look bad in general. Not naming names, but please. Some people, if you demand respect, watch what you say in return.

I love the positive attitude on this site, and its what makes us progress. You don't have to agree and you can always have freedom of speech, but its more about manners and respect towards other people. Besides, even if you surround yourself with people who disagree with you, learn from them and try to see it through their eyes, and maybe you can have a better perspective on the arguement in the first place.

I love the attitude here, please keep it up. It gives people like us a better name in society and completely helps eliminate harsh stereotypes of us trippers.

someone who truly believes that they are "right" doesn't need to ask other people to jump to their aid, dear 'coatl. and this isn't even a scrap, so to speak.

...and fwiw- i'm not the one who has been suspended before for EXACTLY what i'm pointing out here....

as for my description of the human brain- i've used it before just as i used it in this past post. as a humorous way of describing the human brain. are you arguing with me that the human brain is a relatively little wad of curly meat? one of my clients in a neuro-surgeon...i got this funny term from him. sorry if you find it offensive....which apparently you do....enough so to bring it up not once but twice...

have i read your botanical threads? yes. they are very informative and full of all kinds of wisdom and knowledge.

am i questioning your botanical savvy here? no. am i questioning your overall social skills and ability to communicate with others without IMMEDIATELY becoming defensive and aggressive. yes. one need look no further than your post right above this one.
rather than ask you to become "that angry botanical girl who's so knowledgeable but is as approachable as a porcupine in a bad mood", i would *sigh* AGAIN ask you to re-read my post from which you only seem able to take offense and no gold.

am i speaking to you in a respectful manner?....hmmm....for the last time i ask you to re-read my ORIGINAL post to you....

'coatl, i have nothing but respect for you as a soul on the path that we are all struggling on. i am growing beyond weary, however, of your abrasive, intolerant and just plain annoying posts.
please take a deep breath and ask yourself every time just before you post something:
1. is it true?
2. is it kind?
3. is it necessary?

if ALL 3 apply, press the post button. this will guarantee no more conflicts! truly.

LOVE AND GRATITUDE!!

O wow alright.
Your right, people should only be allowed to say nice things.[/quote]

People do not always have to say nice things.
But saying them in a respectful way helps.
It's is the only way others are going to really listen anyway...

Antrocles, I think you & I are on the same page.
Treating others the way you would have them treat you is such an easy way to live your life!!
But sometimes, when others can't seem to repay that respect, after trying, I tend to treat them the way they've been treating me.
That must be what they want.

That's how I took your reply's...

I can tell you are an honorable dude, by the way you say the things you say!!

And I swear to god, you must be able to see straight through the WiFi lines...you can really call em!!

Cheers!

respect and compassion for your fellow beings will ALWAYS take precedent over "freedom of speech". the notion of "freedom of speech" WITHOUT first taking into consideration how compassionate and respectful what you are saying is to those you are addressing will ironically serve only to push those people farther away.

Nice way to say it antrocles.

Heres my take... here it goes

Every human being has the same potential for compassion; the only question is whether we really take any care of that potential, and develop and implement it in our daily life. My hope is that more and more people will realize the value of compassion.
True compassion is not just an emotional response but a firm commitment founded on reason. Because of this firm foundation, a truly compassionate attitude toward others does not change even if they behave negatively. Genuine compassion is based not on our own projections and expectations, but rather on the needs of the other. Sometimes we think that to develop an open heart, to be truly loving and compassionate, means that we need to be passive, to allow others to abuse us, to smile and let anyone do what they want with us. Yet this is not what is meant by compassion. Quite the contrary. Compassion is not at all weak. It is the strength that arises out of seeing the true nature of suffering in the world. Compassion allows us to bear witness to that suffering, whether it is in ourselves or others, without fear; it allows us to name injustice without hesitation, and to act strongly, with all the skill at our disposal. To develop this mind state of compassion...is to learn to live,.... as the Buddha put it, "with sympathy for all living beings, without exception."

beautiful my brother. thank you so much for posting that!! i have nothing to add to that other than my deep thanks for you posting it...

....and possibly....

..oh what the heck...

here is a pic of SWIM's leg: he is a student of tibetan buddhism and has the green tara (tibetan boddhisatva of compassion) and the kincara (tibetan mother/father deity) with him always. the tara to remind him at all times of exactly what you posted and the kincara (which he got after he lost both his mother and father within a 1 1/2 year span of time) because it's mantra is, "it is only through the thorough understanding and acceptance of death that one sees through the illusion of life"...

recognizing the struggle that WE ALL go through every moment....THAT is compassion and yes, that is truly being alive.

thank you again SO MUCH for that my friend!

LOVE AND GRATITUDE!!

No problem bro! I give my words and advice when I can. :)

I'm truley sorry to hear about his father and mother.

And the quote "it is only through the thorough understanding and acceptance of death that one sees through the illusion of life".....I really love that quote! Have saw that many times before.

I am also a student of Tibetan Buddhism! Such a simplistic and honest view of the world.

I'm glad I found somone on the same footnote as I.

That artwork is amazing antrocles! Very nice. Something i'd feel very proud having on my very own flesh.

antrocles, that, is, sick!!! must freak the other cyclists out a bit when you cruise past them with some fully deep epic shiznit going on.

50 HOURS OF AGONY...but more than worth it. these two images are very important to me. as much a part of me as the skin they are painted in to....

another tidbit about the KINCARA- they are depicted as skeletons because they have transcended beyond the illusion of flesh. i always loved that about this image. also, the father holds the skull bowl filled with the "blood of life" (i designed it to look just like the yage pot i used in my first aya ceremony) and the mother holds "the healing plant" (look close and you'll see a beautiful sativa leaf...

...and for all of you who have taken notice of my LOVE AND GRATITUDE!! that i always sign off with....

kancha- gratitude
ai- love

these are not just words to me....LOVE...GRATITUDE....COMPASSION....SEEING BEYOND THE ILLUSION OF THE PHYSICAL WORLD....these are my life's work to embody. i put them in places that i would see every day. i want the awareness of these beautiful meditations on my mind at all times...

now you know a little mo' bout me.... :)

LOVE AND GRATITUDE!!

This thread is becomming a disappointment: a lot of "bad attitude" in the "attitude thread."

Maybe it's acting as a "trap" to expose people who can't resist their own bad attitudes (and I agree with antrocles that "ienjoythisimmensely" was probably hysterix--he got permanently banned within minutes of his first post).

I think someone should state the obvious: The nexus is NOT a forum for "free speech." It's a forum for free exchange of information about spice, free support and encourgement to voyagers in spice worlds, free sharing of experiences and ideas about spice worlds and spice matters. But, obviously, you can't say anything you want about any topic.

And it's also becomming very clear that you can't continually be nasty, picky, petty, contentious....or more interested in arguing than in nurturing and appreciating our common interests in entheogens.

Some people like to argue and bicker (I know I do ;) ). And everyone feels peckish sometimes. I think when we're in that kind of mood we need to go somewhere else to make posts--and only come to the nexux when we feel like being part of a warm, generous, mutually supportive community.

HERE HERE!!

...damn i'm psyched that you're a mod now SF.....i really resonate with your vibe and i truly believe you have the forum's best interests at heart. thank you for agreeing to take on the role my friend. it's a better forum for it!

L&G!!

I like that the attitude link is shown to all new members. that should discourage people from behaving in such ways.

Awesome tats antrocles!

I love this place... wouldn't it be nice if it were a physical place?! Like if we had our own City, and the DMT-Nexus could just be the town hall.

I'd like to start this thread in a new direction.

I would like to say something....

I am extremely sorry for anybody who I have offended here at the Nexus, I do try to propose my ideas and my beliefs in a non-offensive way, and I hope to get better at this in the future, but I will always be true to myself.

I love everyone and everything and I hope that we will all be blessed by Tao (God).

Your welcome, I love the Nexus and truly have never met a person I really disliked here! I enjoy talking about ethnobotanicals here and I hope I can continue to do so for a very long time!!!

I've got to say something here with respect to 'Coatl. I enjoy reading most of the debates people get into with 'Coatl. I think having someone like 'Coatl who has their own view on things no matter how unpopular is a good healthy thing for the Nexus. If everyone just agreed all the time, this forum would be uninteresting.

Even the top scientists of our day don't agree on everything.

There are often times when someone is stating something as a "fact" because someone has found a paper somewhere that shows a study found this "fact" to be so. Now I'm a fairly scientific minded person, and I know some studies are done many times, and sometimes it's not until many years of tests that the original study's results are found to be flawed. This happens a lot more than people are willing to accept.

If someone has a viewpoint, and it doesn't match up exactly with the current scientific data, it doesn't mean they are actually wrong. Facts change as times change. We all know this. There was a time the earth was believed to be flat and this was taught as a fact. During that time period if I argued that the world was round, I'd be laughed at. Seriously folks, "facts" do change as scientists learn more about reality. The more me test things, the more accurate our "facts" become. I'm glad we have people that don't just follow the crowd. Without them, nothing would ever advance.

Scientists perform tests, they study the world around them, they come up with theories and test their theories, but all have their own beliefs and none of them agree 100% on everything. If we all agreed the world was flat and no one ever questioned it, people would still think the world is flat.

You need people that don't agree with the popular opinion. It's vital.

That's about all I have to say about this.
