New members will have limited rights!

Migrated topic.
I've been thinking about this for a bit now, and I'm not convinced that we really need to lock down any portion of The Nexus to new members. As it states on the "Attitude" page of this site; "It’s easy to be humble: There are many professional chemists and scientists here; and there are also many who have travelled extensively in the world of spice."

I really think that this fact alone is what helps to keep the Nexus grounded and a tight community. If new members are getting out of hand and abusing the freedom of the Nexus, I think they will quickly be corrected by the mods or other members. As beautiful as the Nexus is, it's not a pleasant place to be an asshole or a jackass. ;) I think our standard policy of ignoring the obvious morons is the best way to eliminate these types of people. If they don't get a reaction then they tend to simply just fade away. Additionally, many a "Quick Fixer" is just a psychonaught that hasn't got "the message" yet.

That's my two cents. Thoughts?

^ I disagree.

I think that it is important to keep this forum a gem.

This has become harder and harder for the mod team to do, even though we have more mods than ever.

Limiting new members for a short time is not unheard of, in fact many forums do this. I don't think that ANYONE is going to be put out by having to wait a day or two to post anywhere on the forum. We're not talking about making them wait until they have 100 posts, or a month of "good behavior" that's not what this is about. This is about trying to ensure that we're not dealing with a bot, a spammer, or a forum drama queen. 1 member can create a lot of negative feelings and animosity very quickly. We would like to be able to weed these out before they create problems.

As for the "quick fixer". I dunno. This site was built on the idea that DMT is sacred and can help heal. It's not about right or wrong, it's about the ideal that Spice is sacred. If it's not to you, that's ok. But people need to be aware that many (most?) of us don't take a DMT experience as a small thing. It's not hippy crack, the new N2O, or anything like that to many of us. It also is not something that fixes everything by taking a hit. It's a tool, not a toy.

Very well put Acolon!
One of the reasons it is so peaceful for the members, because the team of mods does an excellent job of keeping up with the spammers & getting rid of them before their presence can be irritating for the group as a whole.

Trying to keep this gem of a website shiny is all that's going on here, unfortunately that means having to watch the content coming from the large numbers of new members signing up lately, as all we are in this place is information.
With large numbers, comes people who do not have as pure of intentions as most of us here.
It also brings people who would bring the heat at the drop of a dime, to benefit themselves if they were to get into a blue & red situation.
That's life...but this, this is what ever we want it to be!
And we don't want it to be like all the other forums where advertising & infighting is the norm!!
Let the people who thrive off of that kind of negativity feed each other somewhere else!!
We can continue to learn & share what we learn with each other, until we answer the big questions behind this molecule!!

Not only that, but there is absolutely no shortage of forums, websites & information out there in web-world about the same exact info we have here anyway...ya know!
No one is gonna be denied the tek information to start their journey & anyone can still read 98% of the forums here without even signing up!! They just can't post in them.
No one is denied anything, except spammers, bots, jerks & hyx's!!

It's the way that info is discussed & shared here...with respect & understanding of a certain reverence for this substance & the like minded people who see it as something way more than just another "neat trip"...is why the Nexus is a special place.
I guess I don't feel like entrance into something like that should necessarily be so easy to come by.
I like how someone earlier in this thread likened it to having to learn to breakthrough into hyperspace!!
You have to learn that control!
You have to earn respect!

At the same time, I don't know how to go about doing this in a way that doesn't step on a few toes here & there, it's not an easy thing.
And it's not something that anyone wants to have to do, especially The Traveler!!
But this is being done out of necessity, it's a re-action, not a preemptive strike.

Cheers!
WS

I totally agree with the actions taken. There is a reason I enjoy this web site. I have been a member on other sites for quite a while and I cannot stand to use them anymore, because of all the garbage that takes place.

I have noticed an increase in crappy posts around here and I think we need to take any actions necessary to keep this place clean and fun for us to use. I am a pretty new member here myself, but I have already met and had some great conversations with great people. I am actually quite surprised that we haven't had any spamming problems in the chat yet. But I guess a lot of people don't even know it is there.

All I can say it thanks to The Traveler and all of the mods that makes this such a great place. Please keep doing a great job.

Fair enough guys. I was just trying to look at things from a different angle. You as the mods certainly see a lot more that happens behind the scenes than those of us who are not, and if you are all in agreement then I support your decision based on what you feel is best for the forum as a whole!

By the way WS, it was me that made this analogy! :) I'm glad you liked it!;) I supported this idea from the beginning, but then started looking at the issue from the POV of new member coming in (with the best of intentions). So I thought I'd throw an argument against it out there just to make sure this argument was represented. You guys as mods have clearly considered this in depth, and therefore I support and respect the decision! :) Thanks for all you do!!

The Traveler;

Hi mate, Im glad that you capitutated and allowed the experiences forum to be open.
My thoughts at first were that this would completely change the nature of the forum,
Limiting it to a negative end, however it wasn't really based on anything intellectual,
just a gut feeling.

I hope that this controls the spate of repeated questions and we can all continue to
enjoy the forum. Its a lovely place to be!
