Newb questions about the Max Ion Tek and results

First of all: Hi everyone, I'm pretty new here (at least as registered), but I'm willing to learn and share with you guys, and that's why I'm posting.
Maybe this should be posted on the tek's thread, but I can't as I'm a new member so I'll just leave my questions here:
I've followed the Max Ion Tek with 50g of MHRB, and I got a 1.5% before Re-x. The thing is that after Re-x, the production dropped to a 0.75%; but I weighed the remaining oil (brown-yellowish oil) that I got when I re-dissolved the product (before re-x) and the numbers don't make sense. The mass loss is really high and must have happened during the re-x. I do the freeze precipitation at -16 °C with brand new hexane (not re-used, I mean) and with the dish covered, any ideas where that could have gone wrong? May be that I over evaporated (to full saturation) before freezing?
Also, I wanted to ask why we avoid evaporation as a way to precipitate the product, as far as I know (it's not too far), only the shape of the cristals could be affected, the product would remain the same, wouldn't it? Why do we freeze-precipitate?
By the way, I hace access to free purity tests, so I was thinking if the results could be of any interest here (to post-it or not to).

How many boils did you do and how many base soup extractions?

I'm not really sure what to tell you other than maybe try another base soup extraction. Couldn't hurt. Although SWIM and his buddy encountered this problem. They had 10g~ of orange goop. After a redox (using ascorbic acid), converting back to a salt, defatting extensively, and then rebasing and re-extracting, there was only about 2.5 g pulled. But it was pure and though there were still fats, the majority resembled dry snow.

So you may have just gotten a lot of fats, I don't know for sure tho. No experienced with that particular tek.


Evaporation can yield some gross leftovers from the solvent. It also takes a long time because after product volume > solvent volume, then the solvent becomes suspended and can be a jerk to try and dry out. But if you've done an evap test and it leaves absolutely no residue at all, then you should be okay evaporating. You do a freeze precip to do it faster, AFAIK, and you also end up getting decent xtal formations.

Hello Michi! Welcome on the forum.
I am also using cyb's tek. One of the reasons why you maybe have a high proportion of oils is the temperature. Did you heat the solvent-mix? This will let oils and fats go in the solvent.
I recently did a re-x on some old goo and I also had a dissapointing % of dmt. Don's know if this was the quality of the goo, my re-x or both. Maybe you can tell more about your method. Hopefully some others have some good advice on this issue.
Secondly the freezing method is handy because you can reuse your solvent. On this moment I am experimenting with 1:3 ratio (naptha ml : mhrb gr). So I don't have to evaporate that much. Besides money and sustainabilty the solvent could always leaves some traces in the spice.
If you want nice cristals you shouldnt put the solvent immediately in the freezer but slowly let the temperature drop.

Can you put up you're yeild in weights as I think you're mixing them up abit !!
