Simply and officially, this forum will no longer permit political discussion and discourse.

Of all the topics that people can argue about, almost anywhere, politics tend to do the most damage. This forum is no exception, and it has become apparent that it is unreasonable to expect people to "play nice" with respect to this topic. Due the impact of politics in all of our lives, the topic has become too polarized to attempt to allow further discussions where such is involved. This is a place of community and support, where we commune with each other on topics of mutual interest, connect, grow, and build each other up, not castigate, vilify, antagonize, and tear each other down.

While everything can be politicized, it is the responsibility of each and every individual to practice temperance in how they make sure to avoid and "dance around" anything that may have a political tinge and to make sure to avoid adding political discourse. Sometimes the mention of something that tends to have a political association/connotation cannot be avoided, in which case members are now encouraged to abstain from engaging with such information in a political manner (e.g. don't mention what party is doing what, what politician or political party has what agenda, over-generalizations about government and governing bodies, who's lobbying to do what where, etc).

We, at the mod team, thank you for you understanding in this matter.

May we all come together and unite in solidarity and love and balance in these trying times.

One love

Politics always cause arguments, just as its intended to do. Agreed.

It’s true. I have friends from the entire political spectrum. I can’t imagine my life without having met and befriended these people.

I don’t watch *any* news anymore and my life has been better for it. It’s so good to be able to tell someone who wants to talk about x political issues, “sorry, I really don’t know anything about that, and don’t watch the news”, and then just have them drop it and talk about normal stuff that we can find common ground on.

I understand that politics can be heated, and people have very strong opinions. But the key is to be respectful when having these conversations.

I think the ban on political discussions harms us because it allows us to create strawmen that the "other" side believes in, which we can then argue against unopposed. We never get to find the common ground many of us share since we don't have the conversation.

I thought I knew politics pretty well until I was challenged by someone from the other side. When I was left to find the data to back up my beliefs, it wasn't as strong as I assumed it would be. When the person who challenged me pointed out that things I thought about their side were not accurate, my political view changed dramatically.

I have found lots of common ground with people who I've always felt were my polar opposites. We don't necessarily agree on policy solutions, but we are finding agreement in identifying problems that need to be resolved. It's working with people on a common goal that helps us find solutions.

Don't Think In Differences -> Think in Similarities
Don't Think In Problems -> Think in Solutions

I do see where you're coming from, and I agree that when a political conversation is led tactfully, respectfully, and patiently, it can produce a meaningful result. However, we have observed that this type of conversations are rather the exception than the rule. More often than not, things get heated up, a divide between people forms, and it goes sour real quick.

On top of that, I don't see a reason why politics should have a home on the Nexus. It's important to keep in perspective what the purpose of this platform is - education, research, safety & harm reduction, sustainability, and community, all centered around DMT and other entheogens and psychoactive substances in general. Any topic that veers away from that and has the potential to create a divide between people in the community is a hot topic that should be discouraged.

Time has shown us that politics in particular is an extremely thorny subject, which is why it was banned from the forum and main chat. If you still want to discuss politics, there's a POLITICS room in the chat that you can join and talk with others, while still keeping a respectful and rational tone.

That is just one of the many ways that can sidetrack political topics.

You might be rational about it, unfortunately most are more like religious zealot in a political topic.

We tried it many times. We do not have enough mod-hours to keep things on track, it polarizes our community and it's not the core of this platform. So hence: no politics allowed.

Kind regards,

The Traveler

Not that I want to discuss politics, but is the chat working for anyone at all? I keep getting "Server Error in '/' Application." after logging in.
