Only 3 experiences so far, Hi there

Hiya,
I've been gleaning the forum without a login for a while now.
Figured it's time I signed up.
Made my own DMT via the Adam Butler book recipe, worked pretty well, I'll nail the process better next time. Got some really good stuff and also a bunch that I want to do the Heptane cleaning step on and recrystallise, I don't fancy breathing anything nasty.
Hoping to try a STB recipe at some point too.

Cheers

Hello and welcome!

I'd be intrigued to know exactly what the Adam Butler book recipe looks like. Being here with all our resources we've no real need to refer to guides like that (especially paywalled ones, should that be the case). In fact, most of the extraction methods out there will have been catalogued here for sharing freely, so I tend to take a bit of a dim view of people plagiarising open-source knowledge for personal profit.
Butler's DMT Field Guide: A Brief History, Step-by-Step Recipes, and Personal Experiences From a DMT Saturated Consciousness summarizes the author's life-saving and transformational journey after using DMT hundreds of times for medicinal, meditative, and spiritual purposes. His research into the history, recipes, and usage of DMT helps bridge the gap between what has been uncovered from the structured scientific studies, with the knowledge that has been gleaned from real world DMT sessions.
This comprehensive field guide discusses practical topics like methods of consumption, dosing guidelines, and easy to follow recipes, as well as explores more profound ideas like the ability of DMT to stimulate transcendental sex, encourage neuroplasticity, and help cure mental health issues. Informative and illuminating to both the psychedelic newcomer and the seasoned psychonaut, Butler's DMT Field Guide was created to help make one's DMT journey as smooth and enlightening as possible.

Well, I guess people can write books on whatever they want, ofc…
/end rant

Here's another thread where someone mentions the same book:
And a collection of extraction-related discussion:
All sorts of info to be found in our wiki:
which is currently undergoing the arduous process of transferring to our new Resource Section:

How did it happen that you found the Nexus, btw?

I had watched a lot of Youtube on it too first and I'd started my Reading with a Professor Nutt Psychedelics book, then The Michael Pollan one, and the recent Gallimore book followed by The Spirit molecule. The Butler one is a more personal journey but with a recipe section.

Cheers for the links :)

Found nexus when looking up more stuff on extracting DMT, lots of interesting reading.

TransistorBass,

Welcome to the Nexus.

Kudos to you for extracting your own DMT. Well done sir!

I applaud your intention to try STB. I have always been pleased with results from Noman's DMT for the Masses which is a TEK in the Wiki (the Wiki link is at the top of this page).

So, three experiences so far. . . .

How has it been going? Are you remembering much? How are you consuming the dose? What type of doses have you tried?

I'd love to hear more about your experiences if you don't mind sharing. . .

Again. welcome, :D.

Simply bought it after watching a podcast. He seemed like a nice guy.
OK, looks like there's a bit of a summary serialised on his YT channel

There's this interview on (the infamous) laser Danny's podcast
Sounds like he went through something of a process to become the nice guy, and his articulation of that is articulated skilfully enough.

It took me a while to get all the equipment I needed for the extraction, my biggest issues were:
Kilner Jar seals that expanded in contact with Naphtha and i was worried I'd start splashing caustic soup everywhere, I've now bought some Erlenmeyer flasks with stoppers instead.
I tried using Syringes for sucking the Naphtha up, these are no good with the solvent.
On the second and third pulls on the Naphtha the soup was starting to emulsify making sucking up the good stuff harder, my third pulls were a waste of time and the result wasn't worthy of keeping as no crystallisation in those dishes.

I'm better set up now, though I'm sure I'll have some questions:

  1. The main thing I'm considering is adding Salt (NaCl) in with Caustic, I'm assuming this may help limit the emulsification? Less shaking / agitation may also be appropriate.
  2. Can the Naphtha Pulls be across multiple days to save time?
  3. Does temperature play a key role in this? I did it over a couple of days and did my best to heat up my jars in a water bath aka Kitchen sink with repeated fills of hot water topped up with kettles of boiling water.
  4. How many times can the same Naphtha be used?

Just though I can add a little more context to me:
I'm the literal light-weight these days, I did all my daft stuff way back in the 90's/early 00's, it was weed ever day, E's on a weekend, the occasional line of Whizz or coke, the occasional LSD trip but they were nothing I ever really got much from other than frustration, Mushrooms a few times and always came out of that refreshed and positive but they were just fun little doses with no knowledge of how much to take. Had a massive break and gave up everything only drinking beer in a very stable manner.
The last 2, maybe 3 years I started Medical Cannabis to sort some Neuropathic pain (Massively better than Amitriptyline), I'm on a very low dose of Balanced weed I like a good whack of CBD with my THC so I can remember what the feck I've watched on TV or talked to my wife about.
Some other issues made me cut back on the beer and MC has further reduced my alcohol intake to just a few beers once a month, I don't really miss the beer but still enjoy though stop drinking as soon as i get the slightest of dizziness.
I Blame my wife for buying me my first Psychedelics book.

Just done a quick heptane wash, dish now in freezer so thought I'd add these pics here as they are from my first extracted batch, got some dirty black sticky gunk out of it and gave that a second wash and tipped both into the freezer dish.
I'm looking forward to my next A/B extraction, not that I need any more just yet, but it will be nice to improve on my process.

Was this a total null result, or was there some goo? Don't underestimate the value of goo…

1. Salt will help to 'push' the actives out of the aquous phase and into the non-polar solvent. Dissolve it into the water before adding NaOH. It may help prevent or mitigate some kinds of emulsions, yes.

2. Spread out your pulls if it suits you, but bear in mind that leaving your actives in contact with the lye for a longer time will lead to increased formation of goo.

3. @Voidmatrix does room temperature pulls - you just have to do more of them. Warmth seems to contribute to goo formation and/or a more strongly coloured product.

4. The same naphtha can be used virtually indefinitely, although there are a number of caveats to this. The most volatile components of the naphtha will evaporate preferentially, and the concentration of impurities increases with each use. While the first point is largely inconsequential, with the second there may come a point where the combination of fatty impurities becomes sufficient to inhibit freeze precipitation. There's also a report of strange and unpleasant effects from consuming the product of an A/B clean up of repeatedly reused naphtha. This has been tentatively ascribed to the presence of 2-methyltetrahydro-β-carboline, slowly built up as the minor component from multiple MHRB pulls.

It's funny because one of the reasons I do this, aside from ADHD traits, is that it helps me save solvent. I just tumble the jars a bunch of times and then do my pulls. DMT seems to stay in the solvent once grasped over time.

One love

@Transform I had some sticky goo, I see now i should have dissolved this in a bit of clean Naphtha or Heptane and cleaned it up, one for next time!!

Thanks for the tips folks. I will do better on my next extract.
