If you don’t use a container and live somewhere wet like I do expect to be fighting off slugs. Anytime I put mycelium into the ground directly it’s an issue. It’s like a slug beacon. Same with wild Psilocybes. Usually slugs get to them and amanitas before humans. It’s hard to imagine psilocybin being any kind of deterrent to slugs. The definitely don’t mind it or mescaline.

would a barrier or circle of dimatacious earth around the bed keep the snils/ slugs away

Use a copper barrier ideally. I’ve tried all these other things including diatomaceous earth, egg shells, perlite etc.

Slugs don't plague my garden every year but a bowl of beer worked pretty well in the past for attracting them. It was not a massive issue though.

Research has also shown bread dough to be a highly effective slug bait. Apparently.

I'd catch slugs in my wood chip beds using halves of potato, which they seemed to prefer over the shrooms.
