Perfect bottle for Cyb 50g extraction!

Hello, I wanted to share this awesome bottle I found. My first extraction I used a glass bottle. It worked - however it was a little too wide for a great decant, and also I started reading that glass could possibly etch and shatter due to lye - even borosillicate or pyrex. So I started looking into what is the optimal option to use. I came across either HDPE high density polyethylene, or PP polypropylene. Both are excellent when used with naphtha as well as lye.

After a bunch of searching, I came across this 1000ml polypropylene volumetric flask with matching polypropylene cap. I also was worried about the cap material for a bottle, even if the bottle is sufficient most of the time the cap is a worse material. This is 100% PP from top to bottom. For a 50g extraction with aprox. 900ml liquid + 50ml naphtha pull this bottle is PERFECT!! Highly recommended.

Obviously I can't link where I got it from or show any vendors, but its pretty easy to find if you just search 1000ml polypropylene volumetric flask with screw cap on the most obvious "A" online store you can think of 😉

Another huge benefit of using this material is how clean it stays. As you can see there is absolutely not residue anywhere on the bottle, the plant material/lye mixture just does not like to stick and it does not get all gunked up like glass does especially around the cap.
 
PP is not so safe using heavy base or acid, you should consider usingat minima HDPE bottle, and the best is glass.
Solvent or base can dilute bad compounds of your PP bottle.
 
PP is absolutely safe with NaOH. Rated A+ in resistancy actually. Source: Chemical Compatibility Database from Cole-Parmer

Also, when taking advice from soap makers who have been dealing with lye for a long time and very well documented, it is unanimous that glass is a bad choice due to shattering danger and PP is widely accepted.

Surface area for them to react? What? That's not how it works. You thoroughly mix the two layers allowing the non polar solvent to touch every part of the base mixture before allowing them to separate. The final amount of surface area in contact with each other means nothing.

It's melting point is anywhere from 130 to 170 degrees celsius. Way more than you'd ever need for heat bath or lye reaction. It is perfectly safe and approved for autoclaving as well. One of PP strong points is its thermal resistance.
