Persistant Eyelid Twitch - Anyone else? Ever?

Hey everyone!

Some of you may of been following my hyperspace launch failed thread in the past, and I mentioned that I had an eyelid twitch appear during that time... It has not gone away.

I have been to the doctors twice, and pretty much told to wait 3 months to see if it's still there before any further testing will be done. This happened after a night of spice and (dirty) mdma.

I don't blame the spice for my ailment, if anything I believe it was the other compound. That night was heavily disappointing as it was pretty much the end of my spice, I had not broken through, and I initially thought that I developed the eyelid twitch as a sort of stress-response indicator.

It has now been a month and a half almost and I still have this eyelid ailment. I am not asking for any medical advice as that is well beyond the scope of this forum and do not wish to burden anyone with some sort of sense of responsibility, but I will still ask this:

Has anyone else had a persistent eyelid twitch after a night of spice? After a night of anything? How long did it last? Did it affect you any way in your journeys? Any other sensations with it?

Thoughts?

The universe has given me another substantial round at exploring this. Now if this itchy eye and twitching lid would just vanish... ...

Persistent eyelid twitching is also related to exhaustion and stress.

Are you maybe living a stressful life with little sleep? It can happen that your spice journey might have been the last straw to say so.

When I had too little sleep and too much work related stress I got this too, after lots of sleep and resting it is totally gone now. I hope yours will be gone soon too.

I think Trav may have hit the nail on the head with that one.

But, I'd like to say that I also get those weird eyelid twitches. More so the day after a journey to hyperspace. Sometimes it'll hang around for a day or two, but, generally, it'll go away within two days.

I've had it happen before too, before I even knew what spice was. And that, I'd chalk up to stress, and lack of sleep/exaustion.

It's only ever been in my left eye, recently. I can't comment much on which eye it was before I found the spice, but I do know it's happened back then as well.

Above all else, I hope you can overcome this inconvienience. I hope it's nothing more than a little to much stress, or to little sleep.

I forgot to include what I have already done to try to remedy the issue in case anyone was wondering.

I have indeed increased my sleep to approximately 10 hours a night (one weekend I managed to sleep 16 hours straight, bless my wife). I eliminated caffeine from my diet for approx. 5 days (not even a sip of a soda). I have attempted massages around my temple, eye, ear, and at points inside my mouth. Meditation/Relaxation techniques as well.

It was certainly an annoying fact that stress could of been a part of it, and the eyelid twitching itself caused me much stress up until a few weeks ago! After a month now I've adjusted to it and although it's still an annoyance and constant thought that something could be wrong, I am not stressed per say about it. Everything else in my life is going good, as it was previous to this incident. In fact, that was why I was so keen on exploring this; my mindset was the best it had been in years, and my life has been well maintained lately.

I have had eyelid twitches before, however this one certainly feels different. Thanks everyone for the advice! I haven't yet talked to someone who's had it for over a month in only one eye before... I actually get told by people that anyone they knew that had this turned out to be a tumor or was the beginning of MS! I highly doubt that's my case, and I will not succumb to that fear... Just wish I had more people who have suffered for this long before with it being completely benign after eliminating the "common" causes.

I hope it won't interfere with my next attempt when I am ready! Who knows... maybe it'll be fixed? Positive thinking! Thanks for anyone's input, and sorry that every post I make is large :shock:

I got this for the first time that I can remember just a few weeks ago, lasted about a week then disappeared after a night of caapi tea and changa. :surprised Not saying it's a cure or anything, that just happened to be the order of events in my case. It was extremely annoying and when I looked it up online I got the same answer Traveler gave; usually caused by stress and lack of sleep, tends to go away in 3-5 days.

I have this same problem. I chalked it up to my MXE use,
but it went away. Then just a few days ago I took some
kratom after not using it for a few months and the twitching
came back. Thinking back, I may have been taking kratom when
it started the first time, I just figured the MXE was a lot
deeper at work on my nervous system and pinned it on that.

Not sure if that helps your situation at all, just thought I
would share my experience.

Do you wear contact lenses?

I experienced eyelid twitching during meditation once, and cured it by relaxing the muscles in my face/head/shoulders/back. Especially search for muscle tension in the face region and around the eyes, also try the jaw. It's possible that you are constantly straining some muscles without realizing it, which may or may not cause the twitching.

I have had the same exact thing the last couple weeks! I'm glad I'm not alone. I always start being a hypochondriac and thinking maybe I have the onset of Parkinson's. I think maybe I should go to the doctor and get it checked out. Then I don't.

It's always stress that does it to me, but I think some psychedelics closely related to neuro-transmitters can make this happen. The odd thing is, while tripping on shrooms the other day I actually had conscious control over the twitching. It would start and I could will it to stop. I was hoping it was gone, but no. It's twitching as I'm writing this.

I was just dealing this exact same thing last week.
Stress and exhaustion are likely culprits in my case of annoying eye twitches.

As Traveler said, I slept A LOT and it went away.
3 nights, 14 hours a night.

I also thought it could have been all the coffee I was drinking.

Try upping your magnesium intake perhaps. Magnesium helps to soothe uppity nerves as it's responsible for inhibiting/dampening signals. I got the twitch recently and briefly after heavy night work in a depleted state.

Note that magnesium is one of the minerals that is very quickly depleted by stress.

The muscle where my eyebrow is has been twitching for a few weeks now. It comes and goes but can last for minutes without stopping and it gets really annoying. I contribute it to withdrawal and/or excessive use of substances such as stimulants like nicotine or caffeine. Also I heard that if you have a deficiency of magnesium it can cause twitching in the face muscles. I haven't had twitching in a few days I hope my awareness doesn't start it back up. It shouldn't be a serious issue. I haven't slept well in weeks and have a lot of current stress so maybe you have the same.

Thanks everyone! This is going to sound corny but since I started getting replies from you it's been doing a lot better! I have hope.

I am thinking it was indeed stress that originally caused this, however mixed with stimulants that night it probably exacerbated it. Over a month now is getting excessive though, it's out stayed it's welcome! Reading I wasn't alone was like a huge weight off my subconsciousness it seems, I feel a lot better now.

Honestly if all it took was a post back on the nexus... ... I think I'll be sticking around! I kind of like you guys, anyway. .

OH! And I tried magnesium supplements last week, embrace! Even made sure it was calcium citrate for good bio availability. Fish oils too just in case, I don't normally take them but I was getting desperate! Even a couple of days of 5-HTP and Green Tea Extract! I really wanted this fixed up!

Hope everyone else with the twitchy problems gets some relief soon! Perhaps there is a mild link between serotonin drugs and this issue, someone else mentioned their left eye... it is indeed my left eye as well.

I am glad to hear that your twitching has resolved itself. The eye twitching is basically a muscle spasm. Massage would be a viable treatment but you cannot give yourself a massage. There are more sensory nerves in your hands than your face so when you try to massage any part of your body, your brain focuses only on your hands.

If you tried massage on yourself, this is why it wouldn't work. If you can't have someone else massage you, or can't go to a professional Massage Therapist, another viable treatment would be to use a very warm wet cloth over your face. The wet warmth of the cloth will be very penetrating and soothing to your spasming muscles.

If you have this happen again, I would suggest a hot Epson Salt bath with the warm wet cloth over your eyes and forehead. Make the bath water as hot as you can stand it and only stay in the Epson Salt water for no longer than 15 minutes. The Epson salt will penetrate your skin and relax and soothe your muscles. You will sleep like a baby!

This also works wonders for sore muscles and strains.

when i snorted various substances this happened to me a lot, each time i would snort water and that would release a glob of powder that had been lodged in my nostril for days, which would fix the twitching.

i didn't read your experience report, but if the MDMA was snorted, i would consider snorting water (yes it is precisely as unpleasant as it sounds)

Hey again everyone,

No I didn't insufflate it It was actually a low dose, orally. Didn't even give full effects other than minor stimulation... 80mg of low quality, and it didn't do much. It certainly added to my dissatisfaction of the night. I am also disappointed in consuming it, I originally wasn't going to bother because of how dark and dirty it was but figured the low dose would give a nice relaxation for my spice that night... Instead it just gave me the ability to smoalk lots and go nowhere (Lots of visuals, but absolutely no OBE or mystical/profound feelings)

It's still there, it hasn't gone away. It was certainly doing a lot better yesterday night until right before bed.

I keep wondering if a good massage done at the back of my neck would help, it really does feel nerve related. The sensation on the side of my face is similar to when you irritate a nerve that goes down your arm; I can feel a sort of "tension" between my muscles on the left side of my face near my eye and temple. Other than a really mild headache there's no pain though, and thus supposedly not related to one of my cranial nerves (which was my first thought)

I intend to attempt a good smoalk this weekend, though I am going to start low again in light of this "ailment" and feel it out. I doubt the spice will harm me, even if there is something wrong in that department... However I am sure you all know that if you have a sliver of thought that something could go wrong it can turn pretty frightening...

I had no fears in exploring the spice before this. It's so sad now that I am in this position, but I will not give up... Nothing is more fascinating.

I went to my eye doctor over my eyelid twitches some 20 years back.

He told me there was nothing medically wrong with me as he stared into my eyes with flying saucer sized pupils.

I neglected to tell him about my little methamphetamine habit I had going back, but I know that he knew I was powered by some heavy fuel. It also did not help to have a marriage that was taking a crash dive (largely contributed to by my multiple shortcomings), being in school finishing a masters, and working a full time job.

Could it be that I was not sleeping enough, wired out of my gourd, and crazy?

I have a tremor in my left eyelid whenever I am stressed for more than a couple days. I've found that a few drinks or a small joint will help, while anything else has no effect or makes it worse. I haven't tried MDMA, so am not sure what affect that would have on it.

I think your main problem is something like stress/lack of sleep/anxiety.

I've been an occasional eyelid twitch sufferer, and indeed the stress/ sleep deprivation can contribute. But there's another factor I haven't heard mentioned yet in this thread- in some cases it can have a viral basis. I've read this somewhere (yeah, vague, I know) but in my own case I have a tiny wart on the bridge of my nose that swells up when the twitching episodes start happening (which have lasted in excess of a month). So I heard that Lysine supplements could help, which I tried with very positive results. Swelling went down, twitching stopped. Lysine is cheap and has no side effects- worth a try.

First day completely twitch/tic free!!!!

Still feels like my skin is stretched around my eye, but it's finally better! Last night my eye started burning in short, painful bursts. As I said, this was painless up until last night. Luckily it only happened a few times very briefly, maybe 3-5sec each time... however, the twitch is now gone!

I know stress/anxiety is a common cause, but honestly, I've had no stress other than the twitch in the last few weeks! I'd understand if it was just from my failed attempts and it went away a few days, or even a week later!

I believe with that burning/sting last night it was whatever nerve was damage finally healing. I can't say it feels 100% normal any more, but the involuntary twitch has certainly vanished!

Thank you again for all the correspondence! I think I will celebrate with a smoalk tonight... In fact, I believe my closest friend is ready to embark as well.

I will return, Nexus... and I promise it will not be topics of complaint like most of my posts thus far.
