Peruvian torch in florist?

Hi guys,
At my local florist , i recently found what in my opinion looks quite a lot like a Peruvian torch. I was wondering what the likely hood is of this ? And on another post i was told about San Pedro having an inactive "predominant cultivar" , is there a Peruvian torch version of this? Its not labled as anything, just on a shelf with tons of other cacti . some really nice ones, think im gna buy some any way

Well after going and looking again , im now doubting. maybe its another tricky jamacaru. well you tell me. but that other one is really awesome right?

its a bit hard to tell with that pic.. if I take off my glasses and look at a trichocereus candicans it looks a lot like that.

ps, it could be a terscheckii, but I dont think there is a way to differentiate that and candicans at that stage. The terscheckii will grow slow and very very fat while the candicans will form plump little clumps with lots of pups. candicans is much more common in normal nurseries ime.

lol men you can't tell the difference? look at the prickles or ribs number.. second seems a bit a bridgesii to me,isn't? swim has a monstruosus looking like it

pss is it a reliable source to extract something? it seems to swim it's a very slow cultivar and very difficult to peel skin too ..

The second one in your post actually looks like macrogonus to me, but i dont know these things. maybe ill buy it and let it grow , take some more pics. Its the equivalent of like three dollars hahaha do no loss . and am i the only one blown away by how kickass the bottom one is? and what is your guys hit rate like with finding active cacti in domestic garden shops?

Yeah, I knew someone would come back and be like, "I can't believe you can't tell the difference". No, I can't. Every long cactus pretty much looks the same to me.... so I guess I shouldn't have even bothered responding because I'm obviously cactusally retarded.

Did you ask? If they're a florist, they should know/be able to find out what species of cactus they are carrying.

swim was speacking of bridgesii thinking the second one posted by apoc was a bridgesii,swim has one of it 'monstruosus' but thinks it's most decorative couse it's much slower to grow and have complex shape that makes it hard to peel :roll:

apoc it's normal to have difficulty recognizing the botanical features of the plants if you have not studied the matter. There are many features that may seem silly as the number of pins or the color of them, or section of the pins (triangular, round, flat, straight or curved.)

every little feature can be distinctive
sometimes it is counted under a microscope the number of stomata per square centimeter of surface area that the stomatal index,very boring activity in swim opinion :roll: :?

Banana: the second one is a myrtillocactus geometerizans (sp?). It makes decent graft stock but I think it rots a little more easily than trichs. It makes better fruit though. They will become easier to tell apart after you get some and stare at them a while

I got my myrtillocactus when it was very young, it still is young, I was hoping it would grow into it's san pedro features

you'll find the pic if you do a google image search for "cereus cactus". It's not a bridgessi, nor psychoactive. Yay, I'm not the only one who has trouble identifying them. I also went to a florist once, and saw what looked like a torch, so I asked what it was. She said it was some kind of cereus cactus. I looked up pics of cereus cactii and found they look almost the same as trichocereus.

Um, i ...think ,so ? yeah ok but is one years growth ENOUGH to use? so if i wanted to trip six times a year i'd need six bridgesii type set up
