Since I've heard that tryptamine levels in phalaris grass increase with stress such as low light, nutrients etc, would they be suitable as houseplants, probably on a windowsill? Especially with brachystachys this could be a good way of getting small quantities for a few doses but also keeping them away from frost, hopefully staying alive.
And for growing for seed, does anyone know what triggers flowering in these grasses? I know in other plants it's caused by photoperiod or temperature, either of these aren't going to really be very seasonal when in a house with lighting and heating, unless the grasses flower simply when they've grown large enough. Pollination might also be pretty tricky for them, I know for example with cannabis plants you can collect the pollen and swab it onto the flowers but grass flowers are pretty tiny usually..

Sorry to be a dick, but you will in no way be able to grow enough Phalaris grass inside while still having room to yourself. Grow them outdoors, juice them and attempt an extraction.

Pollination? They don't need to be pollinated. Or, at least Phalaris arundinacea does not need to. They don't really come with any flower, they just set seeds when they are in deep enough soil (over a meter is preferred, at least 50 cm is needed).

I was under the impression that brachystachys only needs a matter of grams of plant material for a dose, and that it can grow to metres tall, surely a large tub of it would provide at least a few doses?
And good to know that they will 'just seed', although I was also under the impression that just about any seeding plant had some form of flowers, although on grass they won't really be visible and maybe relying on wind pollination - I'm unsure on this though so clarification would be great.

I've heard this as well. Seems like there are quite a few people out there growing brachystachys as we speak, so look for a more definitive answer soon(ish)!
